The Business Transformation Office within KARL STORZ - US has established a center of excellence inclusive of program management, change management and continuous improvement.

The hallmark of this team is strong project and portfolio management expertise to ensure that project and value delivery activities align with the broader strategic goals of the organization.

This includes facilitating communication between different departments, ensuring that projects contribute to overall business objectives, and helping prioritize initiatives that maximize value.

Aside from optimizing and streamlining the processes involved in delivering value, the Value Delivery Office establishes metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of projects and value delivery efforts.

KARL STORZ - United States is currently recruiting for a Director, Value Delivery Office, who will serve as a member of the Business Transformation Office based in El Segundo and report directly to the Head of Business Transformation.

This role interacts frequently with executive leadership and provides guidance and direction regarding their interests in the project portfolio.

The Director, VDO is responsible for leading and developing a highly skilled team of project managers, business analysts and other internal and external roles as needed for various projects.

This position will be based at one of our hub locations : El Segundo (Los Angeles), Auburn (Greater Boston area), or Stafford (Greater Houston area).

Responsibilities

Contributes to the execution of corporate strategy and shapes business initiatives based on a deep understanding of the organizational business model, technical landscape and sources of competitive advantage;

collaborates with internal and external partners to identify best practice and innovative uses of technology that can drive sales velocity and development of strategic capabilities.

  • Directly responsible for project intake, prioritization methodology and review, governance processes, the portfolio budget, the project portfolio, project throughput, results management and KPI tracking.
  • Leadership, annual goal setting, project assignment and professional development of a team of highly skilled project managers and business analysts and consultants (as needed).
  • Ensure that all projects in the portfolio deliver value to the business through key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of projects and value delivery efforts.
  • Expand the management of the project portfolio to enhance project intake, prioritization methodology and review, governance processes, the portfolio budget, results management and KPI tracking.
  • Establish a KS-US forum inclusive of Value Delivery and Project Management tools, resources, and best practice forum to harmonize and enhance the culture of continuous improvement establishing a standard of practice and methodology.
  • Guide team members and project sponsors in the development of highly professional business cases that enable the executive to make effective project decisions.
  • Develop a team with ability to : Properly define and manage project objectives, requirements, scope, schedules and resources.

Lead and coordinate execution of project work and retrospectives. Provide visibility to project status to key stakeholders and management.

Identify, communicate and manage risks and issues. Manage project quality to ensure stakeholder satisfaction and value delivery.

Manage vendor selection process as required.

  • Serve as a credible internal consultant for executives, directors and managers.
  • Partner with senior leaders to lead projects and value delivery activities to ensure alignment with the broader strategic goals of the organization.
  • Guide senior leaders to develop ideas and prioritize projects aligned to the strategic roadmap.
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment with multiple, simultaneous and fluid priorities.
  • Successfully navigate the KARL STORZ organization and culture locally as well as globally.
  • Represent the local organization effectively in global initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • BS / BA degree
  • 12+ years relevant work experience in project management, change management, continuous improvement or similar role; previous experience running an internal PMO or Center of Excellence preferred
  • 5+ years management experience
  • Strong social skills, managing relationships to executives, stakeholders and relevant functions in an international environment
  • Sound foundation in IT solutions
  • ERP (SAP) application experience
  • Salesforce.com application experience
  • Ability to travel approx. 10%

Preferred

  • MBA and / or other Masters in a related field
  • Professional certification in Project Management, or equivalent, is desired; IPMA Level C, B or A preferred
  • Understanding of process improvement, accounting / finance principles and operations
  • Business Analyst experience
  • Healthcare, medical device or a related industry experience
  • Prior experience working with global organizations or abroad
