Career Pathway Connections (CPC), an initiative from LA Promise Fund (LAPF) dedicated to strengthening the network of South Los Angeles area high schools, the local Community college, and the business sector to ensure that more local students are exposed to, prepared for, and pursue jobs in the fields of Digital Media, Architecture and Engineering, Healthcare, Business & Finance, and Construction with the mission to revitalize South LA and beyond.
This position will work with students from Westbrook Academy, South Los Angeles High schools and students in Los Angeles County.
The Manager will work with the Career Pathway Connections team to run The Intern Project, lead career readiness workshops and field trips, and be an ongoing coach for students in internship placements during the summer and afterschool fall and spring cohorts.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Lead personal and professional development workshops at Westbrook Academy and other partnered schools (e.g., resume building, leadership, financial literacy, social media skills, etc.
for high school students in person and / or remotely (via webinars).
- Develop work-based learning activities.
- Track and organize applications and paperwork with students, applicants, LATTC, onboarding forms.
- Support with social media posts for Career Pathway Connection (CPC) and The Intern Project (TIP) events.
- Record and edit short videos for CPC / TIP website and promotional purposes.
- Support Career Skills workshops & events by creating worksheets, slide decks, calendaring, attending events & workshops.
- Work with school staff and students on Dual Enrollment recruitment and paperwork support and follow up as it pertains to Coop-Ed.
- School & student outreach for opportunities through Career Pathway Connections, GirlsBuild, The Intern Project and beyond.
- Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts.
- Support as an additional point of contact at Westbrook Academy to ensure all goals are being met including graduation plans and college application and scholarship applications.
- Work alongside the Career Pathway Connections team to lead Career Readiness at Westbrook and interactions of The Intern Project during after school, summer, and school-year programming.
- Work with Westbrook seniors engaged in College and Career-related in-class workshops that build on foundational concepts.
- Support in-person internships during specific dates in July and August.
- Support field trips to SoLa Tech Center and other local organizations / businesses in the AME sector for Westbrook Academy.
- Support professional development for teachers and community college faculty to ensure alignment and enhance student support and success.
- Curate and communicate opportunities to share with teachers / students.
- Promote best practice strategies and plans for ongoing communications with students and educators to promote awareness and enrollment.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or currently studying or equivalent experience in education, social work, labor studies, or other related field.
- At least one year experience working with high school students or within schools, preferably within K-12 Los Angeles schools.
- Ability to assist in the coordination of a program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Skills
- An understanding of K-12 education, student learning, and / or STEM.
- Fluent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and online communications (e.g., Google Suite, Zoom).
- Familiarity with website maintenance and social media platforms.
- Soft Skills
- Public speaking, comfortable leading presentations and conversations with students and adults.
- Enjoys student and teacher engagement; not shy about engaging in conversation with strangers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively while maintaining strong, positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community.
- Proactive, resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and manage time effectively.

- Must clear a LiveScan criminal background check.
