Sr Business Continuity Planner

SUMMARY

This dedicated role leads the Business Continuity program at Southwest Health Resources by working with the staff at all levels of the organization to establish professional practices for business continuity and provide business continuity program support functions including program governance, business impact analysis, continuity plan development and management, BCP exercise management, coordination with external parties and authorities.

The business continuity analyst role is crucial in maintaining a comprehensive and effective business continuity program that addresses risks, ensures compliance, and aligns with the organization’s business goals.

MUST LIVE IN DALLAS OR SURROUNDING METRO AREA NO RELOCATION PROVIDED

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Business Continuity Program initiation and governance :

oIntroduce key concepts, such as program management, risk awareness, impact to critical functions / processes, recovery strategies, training and awareness, and exercising / testing.

oEstablish governance model, processes, roles, and responsibilities aligned to enterprise BCP and Disaster Recovery Standards.

oEstablish program objectives with KPI and metrics reporting

2.Risk Assessment :

oEstablish Business Continuity Risk Management Program

oIdentify risks that could impact an entity’s resources, processes, or reputation.

oAssess risks to determine the potential impacts to SWHR, enabling SWHR to determine the most effective means to reduce them.

3.Business Impact Analysis (BIA) :

oIdentify and prioritize the SWHR’s functions, processes, and dependencies to determine the greatest impact upon the SWHR should the functions not be available.

This analysis should be retained and available to assist SWHR in understanding incidents and / or the resulting consequences.

Quantify the impact on SWHR, its services, and the affected parties.

oAnalyze, document, and communicate the findings to highlight all gaps between SWHR’s requirements and its current capabilities.

oEstablish Priority Tiers for business functions based on BIA results.

4.Business Continuity Strategies :

oSelect strategies to reduce gaps as identified during the risk assessment and business impact analysis.

oIdentify the major functions of SWHR, including potential third-party service providers, with the support of the responsible party for the business impact analysis.

5.Incident Preparedness and Response :

oUnderstand the types of incidents that could threaten life, property, operations, or the environment and their potential impacts.

oEstablish and maintain capabilities to protect life, property, operations, and the environment from potential incidents through the implementation of an incident management system to command, control, and coordinate response, continuity, and recovery activities with internal and external resources.

oCore member of the incident response team.

oCoordinate response efforts during recovery events.

oConduct post-incident analysis and implement improvements.

6.Continuity Plan Documentation and Implementation :

oDocument plans to be used during an incident that will enable SWHR to continue to function.

oDefine the exercise / testing criteria to validate that the plans will accomplish the desired goal.

oAudit BC plans for gaps.

7.Awareness and Training :

oEstablish and maintain comprehensive training and awareness programs that educate SWHR staff members in the aspects of the business continuity program and define their roles and responsibilities in their individual business continuity plans.

8.Business Continuity Plan Exercise / Test, Assessment and Maintenance :

oEstablish a business continuity plan exercise / test, assessment, and maintenance program to maintain a state of readiness of SWHR.

oMap business products and services dependencies to applications and infrastructure dependencies to focus recovery efforts on assets that directly impact critical business processes

oExecute comprehensive and complex BCP exercises atbusiness function or facility levels utilizing BCP scenarios covering a broad range of impacts in alignment with SWHR’s resiliency framework

oCoordinate BCP testing with Technology Recovery testing

oPrioritize, track, and remediate gaps following exercise and events

9.Crisis Communications :

oCreate and maintain a crisis communications plan.

oEnsure that the crisis communications plan will provide for timely, effective communication with internal and external parties.

10.Coordination with External Agencies and Resources :

oEstablish policies and procedures to coordinate response activities with applicable public entities and private resources in accordance with Professional Practice Five : Incident Preparedness and Response.

oContinually assess business continuity capabilities and contracted SLAs associated with third-party vendors.

oEstablish and enforce BCP requirements for vendors based on contracts.

oMonitor and evaluate vendor compliance with BCP standards.

11.Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

  • 5 years of business continuity planning experience. Preference given to those with experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) certification from the Disaster Recovery Institute International or similar certification from an organization that supports business resiliency practices.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or eight (8) years related experience in Business Continuity Planning

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

ØExcellent written and verbal communication skills.

ØStrong organizational skills.

ØThe ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

ØStrong technology skills including the use of personal computers and software tools.

ØThe ability to read, write, and analyze data.

ØThe ability to develop plans, procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to accomplish objectives.

ØThe ability to perform under broad direction in a matrixed reporting structure.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily in an office environment or in work locations of the programming staff, administrative users, or end users.

Minimal physical exertion but may require sitting and standing for long periods of time.The successful candidate will have the capability and discipline to work effectively in a remote environment.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources or his / her designee.
