Position Focus :
The Security Manager is responsible for Yale security operations, which may include, but is not limited to, supervising a shift or functional area, interfacing with specific campus clients as a designated security liaison, risk management, loss prevention, safety, training, investigations and information gathering, budgeting, emergency preparedness, disaster prevention, and personnel management.
This individual oversees the day-to-day security operations of Yale campus while also participating in strategic planning and development.
Essential Duties
1. Leads and directs security initiatives and operations including developing, maintaining, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the security department.
Monitors and approves shift activity reports as ;Supervises Security operations pertaining to differential response, aka fit-for-purpose.
- 3. Provide leadership of security operations including incident response, and risk ;Provide ongoing coaching, training, guidance and direction to staff members;
- maintain positive employee relations and resolve issues in a timely and proactive manner; responsible for performance management of staff;
- participate in and respond to ;Provides direct professional security and safety services and assistance to all faculty, staff, students, and campus departments;
- provides informal and formal safety training to campus ;Oversees campus security and safety program(s) to ensure conformity with applicable regulations and internal compliance ;
- Ensures compliance with University, federal regulations, and accreditation standards to guide industry best practices and strategies, partners with high profile clients to anticipate issues, develop new solutions and / or improved solutions, and leverage university partnerships and resources to provide comprehensive security ;
During an emergency organizes security resources around an effective response, coordinating with other University units, making appropriate notifications and requesting additional security resources as needed.
Completes required after action ;Using assorted software platforms, assembles relevant information for dissemination at shift briefings to prepare a security shift for ;
May be assigned to high profile clients on campus including the Law School, Medical School, Yale Health Center, Yale Schwarzman Center, 25 Science Park campus, Slifka Center, residential colleges, etc.
to foster and maintain collaborative partnerships and facilitate effective ;Identifies, plans, and develops in the development of training, policies, standards, and procedures to maintain or enhance service delivery.
- 12. Can be assigned to oversee security operations for large scale campus events, developing and publishing event action plans as ;
- Establish measures, metrics, thresholds, and targets to drive performance in alignment with security, and other business ;
Provide leadership for negotiating contracts, and implementing new systems or ;Responsible for championing awareness, influencing compliance with security policies, and providing solutions for business specific security Develop, create and implement an accepted and sustainable security culture.
Address employee conduct and performance ;Establish and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with customers, including local, state and federal ;
Ensures operational compliance department, university polices and industry standards best ;All other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill / Ability 1 :
Ability to work with the public effectively, tactfully and safely. Familiarity with MS Office Suite with the ability to learn new software.
Required Skill / Ability 2 :
Ability to effectively manage, motivate and lead members of the security team and cultivate and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies.
Required Skill / Ability 3 :
Ability to effectively manage crises and work under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Required Skill / Ability 4 :
Practical knowledge of security procedures, training programs and personnel management. advance security, law enforcement or military experience.
Required Skill / Ability 5 :
Ability to understand business issues and processes and to articulate the business context of projects / processes.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :
Active participation on security-related industry groups and advisory boards. Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
Five years of experience and advanced Degree Preferred. Experience handling sensitive information and intelligence. Thorough knowledge of security operations or systems.
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb stairs and endure extended periods of walking, standing, sitting. Ability to maintain physical mobility ensuring constant awareness of environmental surroundings.
