JOB STATUS : UNTIL FILLED
QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required. Candidate must have experience using nontraditional teaching methods, preferably in an adult environment.
Must be able to teach at the pace of students and be able to work with students one-on-one or in large or small groups. Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to serve a diverse community, including low-income families and English language learners.
Self-motivated and able to work at a standalone satellite site. Ability to manage and maintain a professional classroom, providing instruction to adult participants whose basic skills range from the third grade to the twelfth grade level.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for completing lesson plan and attendance forms required. Possess working skills in the use of technology to deliver Distance Education instruction, communicate via e-mail and teach basic computer skills to the adult learner.
Maintain CASAS and Assessment Polciy certification as mandated by VDOE.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS : Maintains a professional classroom with effective classroom management. Provides instruction in English as a second language to participants whose basic skills range from the third to the twelfth grade level.
Prepares lesson plans which incorporate critical-thinking, problem-solving, and test-taking skills. Incorporates a variety of audio visual materials and real life applications into instruction.
Administers assessments in accordance with the staff calendar and instructor manual. Teaches to skill deficits as outlined by CASAS and Official Practice Test prescriptions.
Incorporates computer assisted instruction in teaching methods and promotes basic computer literacy. Maintains educational files and student portfolios for each participant, including placement tests / scores, post test scores, and work samples.
Submits attendance and lesson plans as outlined on the staff calendar. Maintains attendance and other student records and tracks hours of instruction using the ASPD and other forms.
Develops and implements retention strategies and share these with Program Manager to promote greater completion of participant goals.
Attends mandatory regional staff trainings which may include two Saturday trainings each year. Engages in professional development opportunities to enhance skills.
Facilitates in-service training for other staff when appropriate. Maintains a working RPS email and checks messages on a regular basis.
Uses the inventory book to sign out instructional aids including classroom sets of books, laptops, workbooks, manipulatives, document camera and calculators.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK : Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing teaching and / or training services to students in a specialized subject.
Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 10 pounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
