Requirements
- High School or GED
- Completion of a program in Trade School
- Three (3) to five (5) years Journeyman experience operating and maintaining power plant.
- EPA Certification for Boiler
- Mechanical skills
- Communication skills
Job Description
- Answers telephone, radio call and / or pager to receive job assignments.
- Performs minor repairs using tools such as replacing worn gaskets, pipe nipples, tightening joints and replacing defective meters and broker water column tubes.
- Responsible for all boiler room equipment, under the supervision of Stationary Engineer.
- Fires boilers and controls generation of a contiguous supply of steam for all Hospital buildings, thus supplying steam for all Hospital requirements.
- Maintains continuous tour of boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with specific instructions.
- Adjusts valves to control the flow of water and fuel and to decrease or increase steam pressure and firing rate as required.
- Adjusts equipment control to correct malfunction when indicated by observation or in response to signal alarm.
- Records in a log book meter gauge, graph readings, and all repair work performed.
- Performs periodic testing and treatment of boiler water.
- Maintains a safe work environment. Maintains a satisfactory attendance / punctuality record.
- Orders engineering supplies, parts, tools and equipment.
- Interacts effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Keeps maintenance records to meet reporting requirements of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
