Job Title : Child Wellness Nurse

The Child Wellness Nurse is responsible for coordinating health services that promote the health and well-being of children enrolled in the Head Start / Early Head Start program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

The Child Wellness Nurse collaborates with families, staff, and community health providers to promote the health and well-being of children and families.

This includes conducting health assessments and screenings, providing health education, and developing and implementing individualized health plans.

Job Duties :

  • Assures that integrated child health services meet the department, DHS, and Head Start Federal Performance Standards, so that quality services are delivered within the established program timelines.
  • Monitor and track child health and developmental records and documentation, to ensure consistent integration across all areas, including child health, wellness, oral health, and nutrition.
  • Including child immunizations, growth measurements, such as height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) medication administration, and health records to ensure compliance with Head Start health requirements.
  • Utilizes screening, assessment, and examination results to develop individualized health plans, for children with special health needs or chronic conditions, as needed.
  • Collaborate with families to identify and address health-related concerns and promote positive health practices.
  • Provide referrals to community resources and support services, such as healthcare providers, nutritionists, and mental health professionals.
  • Work closely with program staff to support the holistic development of each child.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to review children's progress and address health-related concerns.
  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures that ensure the well-being of children and supports school readiness
  • Prepare and submit required reports on health screenings, immunizations, and health outcomes to meet federal and state guidelines.
  • Utilizes program, community, and participant data to recommend program health literacy services and activities that best meet the interests and needs of the participants and build on family strengths.
  • Helps design and implement child health / development training for staff and families,
  • Helps with the development of new programs to meet identified community child health / development needs and with the identification of resources to support them.
  • Actively participates in the Health Services Advisory Committee, and agency and community committees, and maintains membership in associations and organizations that influence and impact the program's services and participants.
  • Delivers health-related presentations to staff and the community about the program(s).

Qualifications :

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a valid AZ state nursing license.
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in pediatrics or community health nursing is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted
  • Knowledge of DAP and School Readiness
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR, Food Handler’s, Fingerprint Clearance Card required
  • Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AZHS Child Care Licensing requirements is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Department of Child Safety reporting mandates is preferred.
