Description / Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, or design, the incumbent serves as the Director for the Mayor's Scholars (MSP) program and has oversight for Granville T.
Woods Scholars, and other special programs. The Director is responsible to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs for providing leadership and direction in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement for the MSP program and other special programs.
The individual is responsible for the daily operations and data collection. The Director provides direct services to students and provides leadership and supervision over assigned staff.
The Director is responsible for all reporting functions related to assigned programs.
Responsibilities / Duties
- Directly performs and supervises staff involved in recruiting, enrolling, and advising program participants.
- Provides vision, leadership, and management for assigned special programs.
- Responsible for the day to day operations for the Mayor's Scholars Program.
- Uses data to drive program design and program implementation, to assess progress and make improvements.
- Leads regular internal cross functional workgroup meetings.
- Ensures student participants are recruited, oriented, and enrolled into special programs such as MSP, Granville T. Woods, and other programs as assigned.
- Regularly runs program reports to determine student participation and overall program effectiveness.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises front line staff to support assigned programs.
- Communicates with stakeholders to advance program goals, and outcomes.
- Advocates for programs throughout the College and with others for the resources, data and processes required for high standard implementation.
- Participates in professional, community and civic activities and organizations that enhance the image and mission of the College and promote program performance and goals.
- Serves as the internal / external voice, representative and leadership for special programs.
- Coordinates with other support services and instructional areas to ensure maximum student success for program participants.
- Collaborates to develop and implement a model for institutional recruitment and retention management plans.
- Utilizes technology and data to strengthen the operations, effectiveness, and efficiency of programs.
- Seeks external funding sources and grants for program support and student scholarships.
- Provides strategies to work with the marketing team to promote institutional identity for programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited university in Student Personnel, Higher Education Management, or other related field.
- 5 years of experience managing related programs such as early college, retention and first year experience programs in higher education institutions.
- 2 years of experience in college admissions and recruitment.
- 7 years supervisory experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with faculty, staff, students, and external organizations.
- Significant experience in program design, implementation and evaluation utilizing data analytics and national best practices.
- Significant experience with student information systems including Banner, People soft or other similar student information systems.
- Ability to work independently, balance multiple tasks, work to meet deadlines, and prioritize a complex workload.
- Strong technical skills (Microsoft Office 365 Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in Higher Education Management, Student Personnel, or other related field.
- 10 or more years of directly related experience.
- Banner CRM Recruit "Super User".
- Community college experience.
