Job Responsibilities

About Whitten Regional Center

Whitten Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Under the general guidelines of direct supervision, must be able to provide guidance to direct care staff on a daily basis with regards to the safety and care of SCDDSN consumers.

Must possess independent decision making and problem solving skills as they relate to implementing programs, job task, providing active treatment and vocational training in various areas of the Day Programming Department.

Must be able to follow agency policy and procedures. Must have the ability to supervise subordinate employees.

1. Implements services for individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities in a group setting to include leisure, vocational, prevocational, and daily living skills.

Supervises Consumers by providing active treatment in all areas based on assessed needs, and personal choice.

2. Completes assessments, implements programs based on assessed needs. Ensures assessments and programs are submitted in an accurate and timely manner.

Monitors programs for progress or lack of and revise as needed.

3. Ensures a safe and clean environment for the consumers.

4. Completes all documentation to include but not limited to data on objectives, attendance reports, individual and weekly payroll reports.

5. Provides training in self-help skills to consumers and serve as coverage staff in the residential units.

6. Provides direct hands-on individual care to all consumers as needed. Follows sound professional techniques according to agency guidelines, rules and regulations.

Participates in training and provides guidance to consumers in the development of activities of daily living skills. Monitors and transports consumers to and from programs, activities and off-campus appointments / trips.

Ensures the health and safety of each consumer while assigned to a residential building. May be required to stay over or work an additional shift to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained to ensure the safety of consumers.

7. Performs additional duties as assigned.

This position is eligible for up to $ 3.50 / hour s hift d ifferential for applicable shifts!

The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs offers an exceptional benefits package for FTE positions that includes :

15 days annual (vacation) leave accrual per year

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high School Diploma and one year year of experience in direct support of persons with intellectual and related disabilities.

A bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Must possess administrative abilities and general knowledge of intellectual disabilities. Must have basic computer skills to include the use of Therap and MySCCentral for time and leave purposes (Electronic Documentation System).

Must possess knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations and basic safety practices. Must have communication skills to include;

reading and writing. Basic mathematic skills. Must possess a valid SC Driver's License. Physical abilities include; lifting, pushing, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, walking, and running.

Must be physically able to work with individuals who may be physically aggressive or medically fragile. Must have the ability to work in a ICF.

Immunization : If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment.

All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan : In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
