Job Overview :

POWER seeks an experienced development professional for a high-impact, self-motivated position on our team. The Membership and Individual Giving Organizer works in partnership with the Director of Development, other staff, and volunteers, to prospect, cultivate and steward relationships to contribute toward POWER’s $3 million-plus budget.

Education Required :

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business or public administration, or related field, or equivalent experience required.

Experience Preferred :

3-5 years of fundraising experience, with a strong specialization in individual giving and / or membership. Must demonstrate a proven track record of cultivating, increasing, and retaining a donor base over time.

Primary Responsibilities :

Planning and Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to create and implement a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction (and specific campaigns) of the organization.
  • Assist in creating Development Department annual expenditure and revenue budgets and manage areas of responsibility to meet budget goals.
  • Manage and lead specific fundraising projects pertaining to areas of focus.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on donor strategies.
  • Work with directors and peers to stay abreast of operations and programming developments, strategic plans, and financial budgets to align with fundraising goals.
  • Help create an organization-wide culture of philanthropy.

Individual Giving

  • In collaboration with the Director of Development, plan, implement, and manage a comprehensive giving program for individual gifts, including one-time, event, sustainer (monthly), and planned giving donors to enable POWER’s work for equity and justice, and decrease dependence on grant funding for day-to-day operations.
  • Lead development and management of a prospect pool of individuals with monthly, quarterly, and annual goals for direct mail / email, personal visits, phone calls, and giving outcomes.
  • Strategically research and understand current and potential supporters’ philanthropic goals.
  • Implement individual donor cultivation strategies, including but not limited to :
  • Ongoing outreach to current and prospective members.
  • Encouraging monthly giving among members and donors.
  • Periodic on-line giving campaigns (e.g. the fall Together We Give Campaign , in conjunction with our peer organizations across the country).
  • Direct mail and email appeals. Planned / Legacy giving.
  • Organizing giving circles.
  • Create donor retention plans for all donor levels and pools.
  • Work with the Director of Development to identify and develop relationships with major / high net worth individual donor prospects (greater than $5,000).
  • Track and report relationship management activity using CRM system (EveryAction).
  • Evaluate and consider effects of internal and external forces on individual giving, staying abreast of current research and best practices related to POWER’s program areas.

Events

  • In partnership with the Director of Development and Director of Operations, support a fundraising event planning team to execute special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan, including but not limited to : concerts, a 10th Anniversary Gala, and other ticketed events.
  • Serve as committee point person for fundraising special events and consult with organizing team and leaders on other events and actions, with an eye to using these engagement opportunities to cultivate current and prospective donors.
  • Represent POWER at a variety of events, including evenings and weekends as requested.

Information Management

  • Maintain CRM / database donor records for accurate reporting, mailing lists, and targeted communication; Create reports as needed.
  • Work with volunteers and other staff to ensure effective and efficient acknowledgment of gifts and other donor stewardship activities.

First 90 Days :

  • Complete POWER onboarding and attend a two-part POWER orientation.
  • Schedule and complete 1 : 1 meetings with each staff Organizer and Campaign Manager to gain an understanding of their work.
  • Schedule and complete 5-10 additional 1 : 1 meetings per week with current members, volunteer leaders, and / or donors to establish relationships and begin to expand the donor & member base.
  • Succeed in adding at least eight new members, donors, or contribution increases.

Skills and Experience Required :

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and success in working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work with persons who are diverse by faith, race / ethnicity, generation, physical ability, and gender / sexual identity internally and externally.
  • Ability to present oneself in a pleasant, persuasive, and professional manner to inspire and generate enthusiasm among current and potential donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Evolved racial and cultural analysis as well as productive experience working with diverse teams and groups.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating special events, person-to-person appeals, and direct mail / email.
  • Ability to prioritize, self-motivate, creatively and efficiently solve problems, strategize, organize and follow through on tasks within deadlines.
  • Proficiency with database / fundraising software (EveryAction experience a plus) and Google GSuite. Engagement with Philadelphia / Pennsylvania donor networks.
  • Strong written and verbal ability to communicate the values of faith-rooted community organizing for economic, racial, and social justice.
  • Ability to create a variety of written materials to support fundraising efforts.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and use data and metrics to shape goals, strategies, and tactics.
  • Familiarity with 501(c) 3 and (c)4 structures and community-based organizing is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits :

  • $50-70K, commensurate with experience, competitive benefits package including generous paid time off policy.
  • Location is flexible within Pennsylvania, Central or Eastern PA is preferred.
  • Time divided between remote and in-office work is flexible.

Physical Demands :

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Some travel will be required.
