a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.

215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. This is a 40 hour work week schedule; five 8 hour days with schedule to be discussed with supervisor.

Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible.

Purpose

Oversees the engineering and project management efforts for the repair and replacement of major equipment across campus.

This role involves managing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring the effective planning, execution, and completion of projects related to HVAC systems, electrical infrastructure, plumbing, and other critical facilities systems.

Responsibilities

Disseminate information and directive from FOM leadership to team in order to achieve maximum success in meeting client and UT mission and vision.

In collaboration with Assistant Director for Engineering and Technical Support, develop commonalities and best practices, and identify the right work at the right time to deliver the highest value.

  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Lead both the electrical safety programs and maintenance and upgrades to campus building automation systems.
  • Lead team of engineers and other professionals providing facilities engineering and project management services for higher education, research and healthcare projects for all UT Austin campuses.
  • Mentor, guide, manage engineering and technical staff individually, and as a collective team.
  • Perform other job related functions as assigned. Serve on committees, task forces, etc., to improve the departmental mission.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources to ensure delivery of key initiatives, and maintain agility to maximize resource utilization against ongoing changing needs of clients.

Interpret information and ascertain a plan of action, utilizing existing resources and staff.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a field related to the work to be performed. Five years of progressive experience in the field of facilities engineering, construction, and project management.

Eligible for Professional Engineering license within one year of hire. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree. Professional Engineer or other advanced licenses specific to electrical and automation. More than ten years of experience in facilities engineering, construction, and project management.

Experience with UT systems, programs, software such as FAMIS, DEFINE, WORKQS, WORQSpace, and Tableau. Experience in general building maintenance, operations, building systems, construction process.

Salary Range

$123,000 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions :

This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed.

Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.

Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop / desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements.

Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.

  • May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
  • May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.
  • May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.
  • May be required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes. Operate job related equipment.
  • May be required to perform elevated work. Occasional work from ladders and / or scaffolds.
  • May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.
  • Drive University vehicles. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy : UTS157 Section 2.5.4.

Work Shift

40 hours a week, five 8-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible
