ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced HR Generalist who will play a key role within GILLIG's Human Resources. You will oversee the day-to-day functions of the Production (Union) workforce.
You will serve a vital role in maintaining positive union / management relations. As the HR Generalist, you will support employee relations, HRIS data updates, and strongly collaborate with operation leaders in a union manufacturing environment.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Be responsible for all aspects of non-exempt employee administration in a multi-union, multi-shift, multi-site organizational structure
- Deliver HR products and services, including labor agreements, in accordance with applicable California employment laws, regulatory agencies, regulations, policies and practices (ex : health and safety, ethics)
- Assist with production non-exempt employee recruiting and hiring and proactively sourcing candidate pools to always ensure a qualified and active candidate pool for production roles
- Investigate and prepare responses to employee's complaints and formal grievances, and support Board of Adjustments as needed
- Support labor relations management, maintains compliance to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and advises managers as needed.
- Coordinate reports that deliver real time metrics related to workforce planning for daily operations (crewing guide)
- Provide leadership and support for all production employee engagement events including, but not limited to : GILLIG Open House, Holiday luncheon, Service Awards, Production Retirements, and other events as assigned
- Support non-exempt employee relations activities throughout the entire union employee employment life cycle (i.e. questions, discipline, policy clarity etc.)
- Lead HR new hire orientation for production employees while observing all applicable state and federal hiring guidelines
- Build strong relationships with operations partners, Union representatives, HR colleagues and experts related to investigations and governmental inquires
- Analyze data and use technology to proactively diagnose and identify business needs
- Other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or equivalent degree and / or four (4) years of progressive HR work experience
- Minimum 5 years HR experience as an HR Generalist and experience in a manufacturing and / or labor relations and collective bargaining agreement environment
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Exhibits a can-do attitude and approachable demeanor
- Ability to engage with all levels of key stakeholders (i.e. EE's, Supervisors, shop stewards, business agents)
- Experience in project management, change management and / or employee development
- Experience with full cycle recruiting and payroll operations
- Proven ability to lead and manage investigative activities up through final disposition / recommendation
- Understanding of state and federal employment laws
- Strong influencing, collaboration, interpersonal, and leadership, skills
- Proficient in HR systems and Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced and high-quality manufacturing environment
- Payroll experience in union and / or corporate payroll (Preferred)
- Certification from SHRM or an affiliated body in human resources competencies (Preferred)
- Certified Workplace Investigative Training (Preferred)
- Lean Six Sigma yellow belt or higher certification (Preferred)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Prolonged periods of sitting / standing at a desk and working on a computer
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
- Must be able to navigate manufacturing environment, comfortable around heavy machinery, tools, etc.
- Standard start time : 6 : 00AM (negotiable 6 : 30AM)
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment, (i.e. safety glasses, bump caps, hearing protection, etc.)

EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $150,000 / annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment.
