Job Duties

Norfolk State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track clinical instructor, Director of the MSW Field Education position, in The Ethelyn R.

Strong School of Social Work. Candidates are required to possess a master’s in social work (MSW) degree from a CSWE accredited program.

The candidate selected is expected to demonstrate significant knowledge of field education at the graduate level; provide evidence or potential for exemplary teaching;

serve as a professional advisor; and engage in service that benefits the School of Social Work and field education. This is a full-time, on-site, non-tenure-track clinical position (12-month) beginning July 1, 2024.

The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University offers a BSW, MSW, and PhD in Social Work. The School of Social Work enrolls more than 300 exemplary students and employs nearly 30 talented faculty and staff.

The School of Social Work faculty produce scholarly work in the areas of child welfare, health, mental health, military social work, macro / community practice, LGBTQ spirituality, and self-care.

Since 2021, the School of Social Work has received nearly $2 million dollars in grants and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program.
  • 3 years post-MSW practice experience.
  • 2 years’ experience working with students as an instructor, field instructor, or a field liaison.

Additional Considerations

  • Doctoral degree in social work or a related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Familiarity with Educational Policy Accreditation Standards (EPAS).
  • Licensed at the LCSW or LMSW level.
  • Experience in online teaching, preferably using Blackboard.
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations.

  • Three copies of publications or other writing samples of scholarly work.

  • Three letters of recommendation.
