Administrative Specialist II - H (Animal Control Division)

This is an SEIU Hourly (limited-benefits) position that is budgeted to not exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year. The number of hours per week and schedule will be determined based on assignment.
In lieu of providing a medical plan, the City grants a medical stipend of $3.80.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Manages animal licensing program. Issues, renews, and processes dog licenses for Palo Alto and partnering agencies.
- Issues and renews livestock and other types of permits, processes permit applications.
- Issues monthly renewal notices and prepares reports.
- Issues administrative citations for licensing or permitting non-compliance.
- Assists with administrative hearings. Issues and coordinates hearing notices and schedules.
- Receives and deposits cash, checks, and credit card charges according to City of Palo Alto cash handling procedures.
- Monitors and purchases office supplies in accordance with City procedures and authorized budget.
- May work weekends or special events to represent Animal Control in the community.
- Assists the division with their social media presence.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Lead Animal Control Officer or Police Captain related to the programs and activities of the Animal Control Division.
Sufficient education, training and / or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through :
- Experience working with the public under emotional situations
- Experience in the animal field, and knowledge of dogs and the care and handling of animals.
- 2 years’ experience in an administrative capacity preferred.
- High School graduate or GED preferred.
Special Requirements :
- Must successfully pass a modified law enforcement background investigation, consisting of completion of a Personal History Questionnaire, fingerprint check for criminal convictions, and polygraph examination.
- Must be willing to report to the workplace and work off-business hours and occasional weekend or holidays shifts.
