Executive Director Human Resources, North America
Austin Powder is seeking a highly skilled, data driven, strategic Executive Director of Human Resources to join our proven team.
The successful candidate must be an analytical, collaborative, results oriented leader who can effectively manage relationships across business units and geographies.
They will implement HR processes consistent with global best practices and defines locally needed policies and processes.
The desired candidate will have strong business and financial acumen coupled with proven Human Resources experience. The Executive Director of Human Resources leads and manages all aspects of the HR function within their assigned geography and works closely with COE Compensation and Benefits SR Manager.
This leader is an essential member of the Global Human Resources team, who will support the business and the HR Department in carrying out various programs and procedures at both a hands-on and strategic level.
This position will provide leadership and strategic support that will further our company culture and assist in our continued journey.
This role will report to the Global Director of Human Resources, with strong dotted line relationships to the President US / Cananda, President Dan-Mar and the General Manager Austin Star.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Passionately creates and ensures a culture of openness and employee engagement.
- Creates a "One Austin" approach and methodology across the various business units and geographies by implementing common and consistence best practices.
- Through the use of data analytics recommends and implements process to improve efficiency and the employee experience.
- Ensures staffing requirements are met with high caliber employees.
- Assist in leading change initiatives to foster an environment of sustained improvements related to the overall employee experience by methodically and aggressively implementing repeatable and efficient processes for the employee and the business.
- Creates a collaborative, professional environment built upon transparency.
- Engages and aligns local HR resources on business strategy, HR agenda and related deliverables.
- Develops a comprehensive strategic HR plan. Creates Centers of Excellence for Recruiting; Employee relations (Field and Manufacturing Support);
HRIS / Analytics. Works with site management by providing coaching and consulting support in all areas of talent management, including selection, assessment, development, deployment, engagement and retention of talent.
- Assists and builds effective and creative community involvement programs to attract and retain top talent. This includes working with local universities as well as supporting the Austin Powder HR brand to measure employee satisfaction.
- Leads efforts and provides guidance on organizational effectiveness, change and design interventions with the goal of improving our overall talent retention.
- Assesses, prioritizes and represents workforce needs and HR operations. Collaborates in identifying solutions, takes a lead role in their implementation and engages in ongoing assessment of HR process effectiveness and identification of improvement opportunities and solution.
- Creates and / or drives annual performance reviews, compensation and succession planning processes.
- Ensure and creates consistent treatment systems for all employees (work rules, etc).
- Interfaces and cooperates with the Company's external auditors on matters of routine audits and compliance reviews.
- Knowledgeable regarding compensation and benefit processes related to benefit compliance and oversite to ensure compliance;
collaborates with the Sr. Compensation and Benefits Manager so that plans remain at reasonable levels with comparable coverages for employees.
- May work with federal, state, and local educational institutions to secure training grants and develop educational partnerships that strengthen our business and help develop associates.
- Enhance and / or develop, implement and enforce human resources policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
In particular, manage the human resource information systems database and necessary reports for critical analyses of the HR function and the people resources of the corporation.
Other activities as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related field. Preferred MBA or MS related to Human Resources or finance.
- Experience in a senior human resources position with a minimum 7+ years preferably in a muti-site, multi-country manufacturing environment.
- Progressively responsible hands-on experience managing core HR functions such as recruitment, compensation, succession planning, benefit designs, employee relations, legal compliance and labor relations.
- Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Prior experience working in a matrix environment, highly desirable.
- Prior pro company and union avoidance experience and methodologies.
- A passion and a high degree of aptitude for employee development, coaching / mentoring.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills; solid working knowledge of MS Office. Technical aptitude for learning new systems.
- Solid business acumen and demonstrated ability to contribute as a business partner to achieve business results. This includes ability to utilize metrics, analytical and financial acumen to solve problems.
- Able to juggle competing demands, prioritize, work with a sense of urgency, meet deadlines, exceed expectations, and deliver on commitments in a fast-paced high energy environment.
- Ensures legal compliance related to Human Resource practices. Proven understanding of local labor and benefit laws such as FMLA, ADA, pay eq etc.
- Excellent teamwork, problem solving, analytical and project leadership skills required.

Work Environment
This position requires the willingness to travel 25+%. Ability to travel at times on short notice including to sites in the U.
