Summary
We are looking for a Field Operator to join our team. The Field Operations team maintains our complex and unique water distribution and wastewater collection systems to make sure we can deliver on our mission to provider water and wastewater services to the community.
This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanically inclined self-starter looking to develop their skills and join a team of experts in the industry.
While this individual will spend the majority if their time working outside in the field, the role does have a mix of field and administrative work.

The Day to Day :
Repair and maintain District water distribution and wastewater collection assets such as fire hydrants, water mains, valves, sewer lines, manholes, lift stations and similar equipment using a variety of power and hand tools, as well as occasional use of heavy equipment (e.
g., backhoes, excavators, front end loaders, dump trucks, water / sewer jetting trucks, tractors, and lowboy trailers).
- Assist experienced Field Operators with service line locates, taps and leak detections using locating equipment, leak noise correlators, sounding equipment, and televising sewer mains.
- Create and complete work orders and updates asset information in CityWorks, our asset management software.
- Access and refer to customer service documents, equipment information, and specifications to complete work and effectively organize, communicate, and record information.
- Assist with fire hydrant flow tests, fire line flush tests, and data collection concerning use and efficiency of water system assets.
- Use a variety of hand tools, machinery, and heavy equipment common to the repair, inspection and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Communicate information effectively and respectfully to address questions from colleagues, clients, and the public.
Qualifications & Competencies
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Mechanical experience working with pumps, motors, seal replacements, or other relevant mechanical skills preferred.
- Must be comfortable performing repetitive preventative maintenance tasks, including exercising valves, jetting, CCTV work, and fire hydrant maintenance.
- Colorado Distribution and Collection Licenses strongly preferred. Must be able to obtain Colorado Distribution I and Collection I certifications within one year of start date.
All Certifications and Licenses must be kept current.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license and be insurable under District's standards. Must obtain a class "B" Commercial Driver's License or higher within two years of employment.
- Must be willing to occasionally work overtime, holidays, weekends and be on call. Field Operators are required to be on call in one-week segments once every 6-8 weeks with a one-hour response time.
- Proven customer service skills and the ability to work productively with minimal direct supervision. Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) are essential.
This position works closely with consumers, contractors, developers, and other District departments.
- Must obtain CPR / First Aid Certification within the first year of employment.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Salary Range :
There are four levels of Field Operators depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Starting pay depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and mid-point of the pay range.
Pay range for each level are as follows :
- Field Operator I : $26.41 - $36.97
- Field Operator II : $29.12 - $40.77
- Field Operator III : $32.10 - $44.94
- Senior Field Operator : $35.39 - $49.55
Schedule : The regular schedule for this position will be 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, 7 : 00am-3 : 30pm and will be responsible for occasional on-call shifts.
