THE JOB
Oak Mountain Amphitheatre is so excited to have you as our venue’s Zero Waste Captain to help us take our Sustainability Program to the next level! This role will provide the successful implementation of the venue’s sustainability program.
This position will operate under the guidance of Oak Mountain Amphitheatre’s Sustainability Manager. This is a seasonal, part-time position.
Hours per week will vary depending on the show schedule and business needs at the time.
WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
Participate in pre-season orientation with Live Nation’s national Sustainability Team Work directly under the Sustainability Manager to help with venue training sessions relevant to sustainability Clock in and sign in pre-show Keep Sustainability Alley clean pre-show, during-show, and post-show Zero Waste Captains will come to the Sustainability Manager for questions and guidance Continuously seek out opportunities that help build enthusiasm and participation in venue sustainability efforts Provide regular updates to the Sustainability Manager to share progress hindrances, recognize other Zero Waste Captains who have worked diligently and gone above and beyond to help make the Sustainability Program successful, and identify areas of improvement Communicate with the Sustainability Manager via walkie-talkie during the show Communicate thoroughly with Oak Mountain Amphitheatre’s Operations Assistant, who will be sorting trash and assisting with recycling on Sustainability Alley Be prepared to come on time pre-show and be at the Zero Waste Captain tent on Sustainability Alley at the time advised by the Sustainability Manager Be prepared to stay post-show with the Sustainability Manager and the Operations Assistant to ensure all recycling / trash has been sorted (if you need to leave earlier, be sure to talk to the Sustainability Manager first and don’t forget to clock out so you can get paid) Expected to work the day after each show for post-show recycling sorting
WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING
With direction from the Sustainability Manager, you will help assist with the pre-show and post-show sorting process of all recycling, composting, and landfill materials, which will take place in an outdoor covered area Be present on show days and be sure to stay hydrated and take water breaks Identify key opportunities to improve diversion efforts throughout the season Qualifications Position on show days requires about 90% of the time spent walking, bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, and carrying 50 lbs.
- with about 50% of that time spent helping / overseeing the sorting of materials High School Diploma or equivalent At least 1 year in one of the following : operations / event coordination, Guest Services and communications, event or campus sustainability / zero waste events Creative thinker and problem solver Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Acute sense of judgment, tact, and diplomacy A strong sense of teamwork and the ability to execute programs Time Management
