Job Summary :
Determines insurability, rates, prices, quotes and recommends coverage for risks specific to the transportation industry for the markets represented by GTU.
Works with producers and insurance company underwriters to evaluate applicant’s risk, selects the appropriate coverages and determines appropriate pricing to ensure overall book profitability and sustainability.
Provides leadership and direction to Policy Service personnel adhering to all state insurance and insurance company guidelines.
Follows all underwriting and compliance guidelines set forth by GTU, insurance companies and states.
Responsibilities :
Reviews application for coverage, MVRs, financial statements, loss runs, equipment, FMCSA data, safety program, contracts / agreements, reports from loss control consultants and other related material.
Compares application and supporting documentation with insurance company models and underwriting guidelines to determine if applicant is an acceptable risk.
Assists producers with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the insurance company.
Analyzes account specific characteristics, evaluates loss potential due to claims severity and frequency, declines risks for which an equitable price level can not be charged or which may not fit in the insurance company's parameters, develops pricing for acceptable risks within authority limits and / or obtains appropriate authority(ies), following established protocols.
Utilizes knowledge of agency management systems and insurance company rating models to quote new and renewal policies, fully utilizing GTU markets.
Prepares quotes and answers questions for producers while meeting timeliness and accuracy standards.
Meets or exceeds assigned production goals.
Maintains accurate and consistent files and data within the agency management and information systems that are compliant with GTU and insurance company standards.
Assist in the preparation of and response to GTU and insurance company audits.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with producers, insurance companies, GTU staff and management.
Provides timely and professional customer service to producers.
Keeps management informed on the status of day-to-day operations and other projects as assigned.
Investigates and analyzes problems and recommends appropriate courses of action to management.
Mentors Underwriting Assistants and Associate Underwriters.
Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports, GTU mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
Provides backup to other underwriters when out of the office or when work volume dictates.
Additional Responsibilities :
Other special projects, as may be assigned.
Meets with prospects, producers and insurance companies for training, relationship and business development.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Training and Experiance :
College degree with major in business administration or accounting or equivalent experience in underwriting for property and casualty preferably for the transportation industry.
Managing General Agency or Broker commercial lines experience is helpful.
Property and Casualty Insurance license in Tennessee. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) status and ARM, CIW or CIC designations are a plus.
Two or more years of experience in Customer Service, Policy Service, Rating or Underwriting within a commercial Property and Casualty agency.
Prior experience with Agency Management systems preferred.
Versatility, flexibility or adaptive to change strongly preferred.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Pay Details :
Annual Salary : $65,000 - $95,000
