Job Overview :
The Assistant Controller will lead the Accounting Team and play an active role in financial processes, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with policies, and adherence to GAAP.
This role includes supervising staff, overseeing financial statement preparation, and contributing to audits and reporting.
Key Responsibilities for the Assistant Controller :
- The Assistant Controller will lead the Accounting Team, participate in financial processes, and serve as part of the leadership team.
- Ensure accurate general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation, and budget analyses.
- Oversee compliance with financial policies, propose updates for stronger internal controls, and maintain fiscal integrity.
- Apply accounting principles and not-for-profit industry standards to financial reporting and procedures.
- Supervise accounting staff, manage work allocation, training, and resolve issues to drive performance.
- Assist in quarterly and annual financial statements preparation, contribute to audits, and liaise with external auditors.
- The Assistant Controller will oversee IPEDS, grant, and other financial reporting, ensuring timely completion of month-end closing.
Qualifications desired for the Assistant Controller :
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional accounting experience.
- Experience in not-for-profit or higher education preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial management systems, including ERP systems and MS Excel.
Location : St. Petersburg, Florida. Full-time, on-site.
Salary : $90,000 - $100,000 depending on experience.
