A government organization in California is actively seeking a driven and hardworking professional to join their staff as their new Accounts Payable Specialist.
In this role, the Accounts Payable Specialist performs accounting support duties in accordance with standard office procedures and City policy.
Responsibilities
The Accounts Payable Specialist will :
- Maintains and updates records and files associated with payroll systems and related technical transactions
- Maintains and updates records and files associated with accounts receivable
- Maintains and updates records and files associated with accounts payable such as purchase requisitions, invoices, and payroll
- Refers uncollected debts to collection agency, meets with debtors to create partial payment agreements and schedules
- Utilizes computer software financial and spreadsheet programs on personal computer and mainframe platforms
- Works on special projects as assigned
- Maintains and enforces all aspects of security and confidentiality of records and information
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 2+ years of bookkeeping and clerical accounting experience
- Knowledge of city organization, operations, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of public sector fund accounting and bookkeeping principles
- Ability to multitask
- Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management
- Knowledge of payroll accounting rules and procedures
- Strong mathematical skills
- Highly organized
- Excellent communication skills
