Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Associate Dean, the adjunct faculty member will teach various Surgical Technology evening / day classes including such courses as Beginning Surgical Theory, Surgical Procedures, and Surgical Practicum.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties 1. Prepare and teach classes in the Surgical Technology program
2. Participate in program activities to maintain accreditation standards
3. Participate in curriculum development, innovations in the delivery and design of Surgical Technology courses and emphases including textbook selection
4. Demonstrate professional development and contributions to the Surgical Technology discipline
5. Participate in the use of instructional technology including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments
6. Technological literacy and innovation Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued 1. Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization
2. Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators
3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments
4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards
5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades
6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance
7. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines
8. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment
9. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy
10. Maintains professional and collegial behavior
11. Handles / responds to student concerns / complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1 2 days)
12. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and / or College procedure
13. Completes all required employee trainings
14. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines
15. Provides ADA accommodations as requested Minimum Qualifications National Board (NBSTSA) Certified Surgical Technologist
Two or more years of operating room experience Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline
Teaching experience in a higher education institution (adjunct or full-time)
Teaching experience in a clinical or didactic setting Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
Clinical experience as a practicing surgical technologist
Documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility. A breadth of knowledge of experience in the field of Surgical Technology
A depth of understanding of the Surgical Technology field through professional development and can contribute to the current knowledge of the discipline
Maintain credible academic degrees or certifications in the field as required by NBSTSA Certifying boards and ARCSTSA accreditation
Demonstrated strength in teaching community college courses either as an adjunct or full-time faculty
Knowledge and experience in promoting quality education in laboratory and fieldwork experiences and ensuring student and consumer safety
Knowledge of the development, implementation, and evaluation of fieldwork education
Knowledge of the development of new courses and the upgrading of current courses and programs
Knowledge of instructional technology appropriately both in the classroom and as a tool for distance learning Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
