To provide administrative direction and oversight to the Police Department including the jail and Mayor's Court with the goal of protecting and serving the citizens of Independence.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Department Administration
- Performs jail checks of prisoners;
- Distribute prisoner meals;
- Dispersing medications to prisoners as needed;
- Warrant pick-ups and execute prisoner drop offs;
- Perform intoxication testing for arresting officer; maintain certification;
- Collect prisoner property, prisoner security and property releasing;
- Observe prisoners;
- Complete booking packet;
- Maintain prisoner blankets, linens, and attire.
Clerical
- Perform a variety of secretarial tasks in support of programs or department;
- Attend meetings;
- Prepare memos, letters, reports and other documents using word processing, spreadsheet, database and / or presentation software;
- Proofread a variety of documents;
- Other duties as required.

Education and Experience :
Education : High School Diploma, Some College preferred
Experience : Jail, corrections, or law enforcement experience preferred
License or Certification Required : Valid Ohio driver's license plus a driving record that is acceptable to the City's risk managers and insurers;
Ohio Jailer Certification preferred
