ARES is seeking a full-time Spanish Language Digital Communications Specialist to help shape and implement the strategy for NASA’s Spanish language social media accounts and websites, as part of the agency’s Spanish communications team at Goddard Spaceflight Center, in Greenbelt, MD, and NASA Headquarters, in Washington D.
C. The position is in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM).
From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA’s message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA’s communication to the outside world.

Job Description / Functional Responsibilities
This position will support a dynamic team of Spanish-language communicators in elevating products that will inform and excite Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.
S. and beyond, promoting NASA missions and their applications in our daily lives, as well as highlighting the role of Hispanics at NASA.
What You’ll Do :
- Support the development, and implementation of NASA’s Spanish language digital media strategy.
- Produce high-quality, engaging content for various digital platforms, including Instagram reels, stories, images with alternative text and detailed captions, videos, and text-based social media posts.
- Develop and implement creative social media campaigns that drive engagement and growth.
- Manage NASA en Español social media channels on a day-to-day basis, as well as our social media editorial calendar. This may include onboarding new channels to reach Spanish-speaking audiences.
- Support agency announcements, new initiatives, and events with live coverage, social media tool kits, and other digital content strategies
- Ensure our digital content is Section 508 compliant.
- Monitor social media trends and emerging platforms to stay at the forefront of digital engagement strategies.
- Engage with our audiences, answering questions and comments whenever possible.
- Foster relationships with science-focused content developers, organizations and other influencers outside NASA.
- Coordinate content and publish to NASA’s Spanish-language websites.
- Provide metrics and trending reports.
Requirements :
- Native-level written and spoken Spanish.
- Demonstrated understanding of the make-up and needs of Spanish-speakers / Hispanics in the United States, including common cultural values and information consumption patterns.
- Strong knowledge of WordPress and image editing tools.
- In-depth knowledge of various social media platforms, analytics tools, and emerging trends in digital media.
- Excellent knowledge of social and web analytics tools, including Sprinklr and Google Analytics.
- Impeccable knowledge of Section 508 requirements.
- Excellent editorial judgment, copywriting skills, and ability to meet deadlines. Will need to learn NASA Style, and contribute to NASA Spanish-language stylebook
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national or U.S. permanent resident.
- While the job is hybrid with telework opportunities, this is not a remote position, and will require regular on-site work at either NASA center.
- Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions the employee bears travel costs to nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment.
Education and Previous Work Requirements :
- Bachelor’s of Science or Bachelor’s of Arts degree in new media, journalism, communications, science communication, broadcast journalism, marketing, or equivalent work experience.
- Fifteen years of relevant social media and web experience, ideally at a science organization.
- Proven experience in social media content development, community management and developing and implementing social media and web strategies.
Minimum Experience / Competencies / Skills :
- Experience working with scientists and engineers (or similar technical subject matter experts) to present their stories.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Lync, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.
Preferred Qualifications :
While not required, video production skills are a plus, and could support other team members as time allows.
