Improvement Engineer

Validate improvement opportunities and assist in building the Plant-Specific Technology Plan. Implement projects as identified in the Plant-Specific Technology Plan.
Assist in plant operations when called upon. Facilitate development of the business / facility maintenance strategy and solves reliability and availability losses through application of reliability technology and tools to enable the plant to meet its business plan and strategy and therefore the customer’s need.
This result is achieved by focusing on those opportunities that over a long-term period or historically has impacted the plant’s measured asset capability and the opportunities identified as "high-risk" in risk assessments, reliability models, etc.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for the TICA work process in the plant (Technology Implementation for Competitive Advantage)
- Executes capital projects (typically less than $2 million)
- Identifies areas for improvement and networks with technical resources that are identifying and developing business level Most Effective Technology.
- Contribute to creating and maintaining a value-added Plant-Specific Technology Plans (PSTP).
- Implements best practices in operations in order to optimize operations. Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET), and specific Operating Discipline requirements are in place.
- Works with Manufacturing Focal Point to develop process improvement ideas.
- Acts as the plant representative on the business’ improvement engineers’ network.
- Provide root cause investigation technical support as needed.
- Achieve Asset Capability and Asset Mechanical Reliability business objectives.
- Evaluates and quantifies the impact projects such as equipment reconfigurations, design changes, equipment quality, etc will have on ability to meet customer needs
- Evaluates effectiveness of individual aspects of the PPM program by showing quantitatively the impact of failures and PPM.
- Asset utilization and cost data is analyzed to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities.
- Focuses on reliability issues and not firefighting issues.
- Participates in advanced trouble shooting and coaches others to learn these skills.
- Evaluates / validates the impact of corrective actions that impact availability / reliability and leverages solutions across a business or site if appropriate
- Participates in plant health study and efforts to implement corrective action to maintain or improve plant health.
- Applies long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles in conjunction with the discipline teams and technical resource networks to design reliability into our purchasing requirements.
Provide equipment reliability and performance data to the technical resource networks for evaluation of equipment performance.
- Uses long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles to optimize spare parts stockage levels in conjunction with the MRO function.
- Develop and implement operating discipline that will improve reliability.
- Participates in reliability network activities.
- Participates in the plant on-call schedule.
Job Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Five (5) or more years of experience in refining or chemical manufacturing operations.
