About the Role
The Senior Collections Underwriter is a key member of our underwriting team, reporting to the VP of Private Collections.
This role supports the underwriting team nationally and can be based in any of our offices, with a preference for New York and Chicago, though remote work will be considered.
The primary goal of this position is to profitably grow a specialized book of business by actively partnering with brokers and working effectively with colleagues throughout the organization.
The Senior Collections Underwriter will focus exclusively on policies related to fine art, jewelry, and collectibles, leveraging specialized knowledge to assess risk and provide exceptional service to clients.
What You'll Do
Business Management :
- Plan and budget for the fine art, jewelry, and collectibles book of business.
- Track and report performance to plan.
- Develop a clear view of market conditions and the competitive landscape specific to high-value collectibles.
Broker Partnership :
- Develop, maintain, and manage agent partnerships with a focus on fine art and jewelry specialists.
- Develop strategies and goals for agents and track progress.
- Position our company within the agency as the go-to provider for fine art, jewelry, and collectibles insurance.
- Deliver exceptional, timely, complete, and accurate service to agents.
- Develop trusted, respected, and lasting relationships with agent partners.
- Work with agents to craft the best solutions for their clients.
- Share knowledge and best practices with agents.
- Underwrite empathetically at all times.
Underwriting Execution :
- Responsible for new and renewal underwriting execution for fine art, jewelry, and collectibles policies.
- Select risks in line with our company’s strategy and underwriting guidelines.
- Operate within authority and documentation guidelines.
- Follow up on accounts and close new business.
Underwriting Referrals :
- Provide excellent referral service to more junior underwriters on the team.
- Assist in the development of junior underwriters by sharing specialized knowledge and best practices.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Minimum 5-8 years of underwriting experience, preferably in high-value or specialty insurance.
- Demonstrated technical expertise and product-specific knowledge in fine art, jewelry, and collectibles.
- Strong analytical skills, along with strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in building and maintaining broker and client relationships.
- An interest in the art, jewelry, and collectibles world is nice to have but not required.
The base salary for this role can range from $80k-$95k, based on a full-time work schedule. An individual’s ultimate compensation will vary depending on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among other team members with comparable experience.
