Compensation : $70,425 - $114,440
The Sr. Engineer will work with minimal supervision under the direction of the Senior Director / Director, Performance Engineering.
The Sr. Engineer will act as an in-house consultant in order to conduct performance improvement projects throughout UAB Medicine s ambulatory clinics and, occasionally, inpatient departments to assist the organization with improving efficiency and resource utilization.
These projects will consist of creating a project charter, observing workflows and interviewing clinic staff, collecting and analyzing relevant baseline data, formulating recommendations for improvement, presenting a report to key project stakeholders, and facilitating the implementation of recommendations.
The Sr. Engineer will lead project teams and may also direct other staff or student interns on project work. The Sr. Engineer is expected to acquire additional through various sources, including conferences, webinars, books, articles, formal training and informal communications.
The duties will include, but will not be limited to, the evaluation and modification of work processes related to patient flow, patient safety, resource utilization, and patient satisfaction.
In addition to leading and participating in performance improvement projects, the Sr. Engineer may also participate on multi-disciplinary work groups created to address organizational challenges or goals.
Their role in such groups may include providing data analysis, facilitating process improvement teams, or observing relevant processes to identify inefficiencies.
The Sr. Engineer will participate in discussions among faculty and staff regarding patient flow, workflow processes, space utilization, resource capacity, and safety issues and will work with people in related positions in other departments and administrative levels.
Qualifications
REQUIRED : Bachelor s Degree in industrial engineering, health systems engineering, or related engineering field. Three (3) years of experience in healthcare process improvement.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. PREFERRED : Master s Degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Health Care Administration, Healthcare Quality & Safety, Operations Research, or related field.
Six Sigma Green Belt or obtained within three (3) years of hire required.
