Job Summary : We are seeking a Heavy Civil Construction Project Engineer to assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of complex civil infrastructure projects.

The Project Engineer will support the Project Manager and field teams in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy civil construction and a solid understanding of engineering principles, construction management, and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Project Coordination : Assist the Project Manager in planning and scheduling project tasks, ensuring that all resources (labor, materials, equipment) are available and used efficiently.
  • Documentation Management : Prepare and manage construction documents, including RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, change orders, and project drawings.

Ensure that all project documentation is organized and updated.

Field Support : Work closely with field teams to ensure construction activities align with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards.

Assist the Superintendent with on-site coordination, inspections, and technical problem-solving.

Quality Control : Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, civil standards, and safety regulations.

Conduct quality inspections of earthwork, concrete, asphalt, and structural components.

  • Cost Tracking : Assist in tracking project costs and budgets, reviewing invoices, change orders, and material orders. Work with the Project Manager to ensure the project remains within budget.
  • Scheduling : Help maintain and update project schedules, coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams to meet deadlines.

Identify and communicate any potential delays or conflicts.

  • Safety Management : Support the enforcement of the site-specific safety plan. Conduct safety inspections and ensure that all team members comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication : Assist in maintaining strong relationships with clients, engineers, government agencies, and subcontractors.

Provide regular project updates and attend coordination meetings.

Technical Support : Provide engineering support to the construction team by interpreting drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Assist in resolving design conflicts or discrepancies on-site.

  • Environmental Compliance : Ensure that construction activities comply with environmental regulations and permits. Assist with erosion control measures and stormwater management as needed.
  • Project Closeout : Support the project closeout process, including final inspections, punch lists, and turnover documentation.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar role within the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Knowledge of heavy civil construction processes, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, and structural steel.
  • Familiarity with construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS) and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, and change order management.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
