Senior Data Architect
Overview :
The Senior Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization's data architecture, including but not limited to data warehouse and data marts.
This role ensures that data across the organization is well-architected, structured, integrated, and managed in a way that supports business operations and analytics.
The Senior Data Architect works closely with the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics to ensure that the underlying data infrastructure meets the organization's reporting and analytical needs, with a particular focus on the ETL processes that form the backbone of data integration.
Job Responsibilities :
Data Architecture Design :
- Maintain and extend the enterprise data architecture, including data models, database structures, data warehouses, data lakes, and integration layers.
- Ensure all initiatives align with our currently defined data architecture, industry standards, and best practices, and support scalability, security, and performance requirements.
Data Governance and Quality :
- Help define and enforce data governance policies and standards across the organization to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
- Implement data quality management processes, including data validation, cleansing, and monitoring, to ensure high data integrity.
Data Integration :
- Design, develop, and oversee ETL processes to ensure efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading across various data sources and systems.
- Collaborate with data engineers and ETL developers to optimize ETL workflows for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Implement best practices for ETL processes, including data validation, error handling, and logging to ensure data integrity throughout the pipeline.
Data Infrastructure for Advanced Analytics and Predictive Models :
- Design and manage the data infrastructure required for predictive modeling, machine learning, and data mining, ensuring that data pipelines are optimized for these processes.
- Collaborate with the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics to ensure that the data preparation processes (e.g.
ETL) meet advanced analytics needs.
Build and maintain the infrastructure for deploying predictive models and machine learning algorithms into production environments.
Ensure that these models can be scaled, automated, and integrated into business operations effectively.
Technology and Infrastructure Management :
- Evaluate, select, and implement data management technologies, including data storage, processing platforms, and integration tools.
- Ensure the data infrastructure supports the needs of business intelligence and analytics functions, including data accessibility and processing speed.
Collaboration and Leadership :
- Collaborate with IT, security, and business teams to continue to align data architecture with overall technology and business strategies.
- Lead and mentor other data professionals, providing architectural guidance and promoting best practices in data management.
Compliance and Security :
- Collaborate with the IT Operations team to continue to enforce data security protocols to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., PII, PCI, HIPAA).
- Maintain audit trails and documentation of data architecture and governance processes.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement :
- Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and trends and integrate innovative solutions into the organization's data architecture.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the data architecture to support evolving business needs and technology advancements.
Skills and Experience :
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, and ETL processes.
- 10+ years of experience developing using structured query language (SQL)
- 3+ years of experience working with Azure-native SQL Databases
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise data architectures for the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry.
- Experience architecting solutions with row-level security is strongly preferred.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, ETL best practices, and data security practices in Insurance.
- Excellent leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments and bring alignment.
- Must be a hands-on individual who enjoys building data warehouses and understands data productization concepts.
