A law firm in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Technology Patent Agent or Technical Analyst to join their team. The role involves preparing and prosecuting patent applications, providing technical and legal research, and supporting patent interference and litigation proceedings.

USPTO registration is not required, but top academic credentials are essential. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic legal environment with a focus on intellectual property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Contribute to patent prosecution strategies to strengthen intellectual property portfolios.
  • Conduct in-depth technical and legal research and analysis on pending matters.
  • Provide technical support for patent interference and litigation proceedings.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to deliver high-quality legal and technical services.
  • Review and draft technical documents related to patent cases.
  • Monitor and analyze developments in intellectual property law, especially in relevant technology sectors.
  • Assist in managing patent portfolios and preparing responses to USPTO Office Actions.
  • Participate in client meetings to discuss patent strategies and technologies.

Requirements

  • Strong technical background in physics, computer science, or electrical engineering .
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex technical concepts and articulate them clearly in writing.
  • Outstanding written and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct comprehensive technical and legal research.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented legal environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in intellectual property law and patent prosecution.

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering , or a closely related technical field is required.
  • Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) in relevant technical fields are highly desirable but not required.
  • Should have 0-4 years of experience.

Certifications

USPTO registration is not required for this role, but candidates with registration are encouraged to apply.

Skills

  • Strong technical aptitude and understanding of patentable technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to handle complex legal and technical matters.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal setting.
  • Familiarity with patent law, technical documentation, and legal proceedings is a plus.
  • Proficiency in conducting research using patent databases and other technical / legal research tools.
