Position Summary :
Sovah Martinsville is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to examine patients with breathing-related conditions and conduct diagnostic testing.
Consult with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.
- Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
- Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
- Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
Provides diagnostic and therapeutic interventions on physician-prescribed patients with acute and chronic cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, utilizing state-of-the-art procedures and bio-medical equipment
Coordinates and participates in the administration of medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, aerosol therapy; NT, ETT, tracheostomy suctioning, and tracheostomy care.
Chest physical therapy, hyperinflation therapy, treatments, and the administration of medications used in respiratory care procedures by physicians' orders.
- Performs twelve-channel electrocardiograph examinations.
- Performs the more complex respiratory care procedures to include calibrating, setting up, and monitoring of mechanical ventilators, blood gas analyzers, Bronchoscopy equipment, and pulse oximeters.
- Evaluates, initiates, monitors, and weans patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Performs Holter Monitoring set-up, instruction, and analysis.
- Performs Event Recorder set-up, instruction, and data collection.
- Participates as a member of the cardiac Arrest Team responding to emergency or STAT calls to establish natural and artificial airways, including oro / naso endotracheal intubations.
- Provide clinical instruction on the proper use of equipment to hospital staff and patients; make rounds with physicians to discuss preferred treatment methods for individual patients.
- Set up and perform arterial catheterization. Monitor and troubleshoot homodynamic equipment.
- Participates in the routine maintenance of equipment; makes periodic rounds to ensure proper functioning of bio-medical equipment.
- Transport patients requiring manual ventilatory support or supplemental oxygen to various locations within the hospital or to other hospitals.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Performs simple portable spirometry.
- Posts charges into the hospital information system.

Minimum Education :
Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Program, with an A.A.S. degree, Certification of Graduation, or equivalent.
Required Skills :

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye and hand coordination.
