Overview

E2 is looking for a senior-level Distribution Designer to join our team in our greater Portland or Salt Lake City area to support our major electric utility client.

The successful candidate will perform field surveys of existing utility poles and underground vaults, collect data from digital records then apply company, industry, and regulatory standards and specifications to plan the construction, relocation, installation and / or maintenance of facilities and equipment associated with overhead and underground electrical equipment and utility infrastructure.

The position will work under the direction of the Team Lead and will report directly to the Department Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering and design teams to produce and / or review overhead and underground distribution design packages playing a pivotal role in maintaining industry standards, conformance to client requirements, and providing technical expertise in the field.
  • Works with engineering and design team to produce and / or review overhead and underground distribution design packages, including construction drawings, materials inventory (install and removals), voltage drop calculations, environmental / FAA / permitting releases, easements, fielding photos, and notes, distribution planning coordination requests, and GIS maps.
  • Understands and applies knowledge of overhead or underground electric utility distribution designs and construction standards, applicable codes, and industry practice to produce reliable and technically sound designs and / or quality control reviews.
  • Reviews design documents and drawings for accuracy and completeness, addressing any discrepancies or issues identified during the review process.
  • Provides clear and concise comments and justifications where design deficiencies are observed.
  • Reviews revised designs for incorporation of comments.
  • Identifies trends or new issues and raises them for management review along with potential solutions.
  • Ensures and maintains compliance with applicable company and client standards and procedures.
  • Provides technical support to junior designers.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of department and company goals.
  • Participates in special projects or tasks as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology or similar degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in a utility distribution planning function.
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Minimum six (6) years’ experience with distribution design and construction standards for PacifiCorp.
  • Minimum six (6) years’ experience performing Pole Loading Analyses.
