Construction Controller
The Construction Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations related to the companys construction projects.
This role includes performing and managing the construction accounting from project initiation to close out for all projects, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with industry regulations, and supporting strategic decision-making by providing key financial insights.
The Controller will be responsible for the timely processing of all draws and reconciling of included invoices.
Responsibilities :
- Oversee all financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Monitor project costs, profitability, and financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Manage cash flow, including billing, collections, and payment schedules to optimize working capital.
- Produce draw packages in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Ensure compliance with payments against approved contracts.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of construction accountants (future growth), ensuring high performance and professional growth.
- Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and other departments to ensure seamless financial operations.
- Internal Controls & Compliance :
- Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
- Oversee audits, including preparing for and responding to external audit requests.
- Project Accounting :
- Manage job costing, ensuring all project costs are accurately tracked and reported.
- Review and approve project budgets, change orders, and financial forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with financial elements of contracts, lien waivers, and other requirements related to construction accounting.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making on project bids, capital investments, and other strategic initiatives.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a construction accounting leadership role.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, percentage of completion accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in Yardi Job Cost preferred
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong leadership and team management experience.
- High level of integrity, with a commitment to ethical financial practices.
