We have an immediate opening for a Pharmacy Technician in the Iowa City area.

This position is a day shift position with NO weekends.

Position Summary

Under general supervision by a pharmacist, compounds sterile products in accordance with principles of aseptic technique and in accordance with prescriber orders.

Follows company policies and procedures and performs activities associated with maintaining the pharmacy.

Position Responsibilities

• Performs activities associated with inventory maintenance.
• Completes quality assurance activities and quality control records for documentation of appropriate sterile compounding processes.
• Maintains cleanliness of MIC and other equipment and the pharmacy in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Generates and / or maintains appropriate records related to medication distribution and dispensing and disposal.
• Utilizes various equipment including Baxa pump, label printers, laser report printers, and computer keyboards / terminals.
• Utilizes aseptic technique in MIC, biological safety cabinet to prepare sterile products, including cytotoxic drugs, in single doses.
• Utilizes automated compounding equipment to compound total parenteral nutrition solutions.
• Participates in orientation of pharmacy technician and pharmacist.
• Communicates with other health care personnel.
• Assist pharmacists with the orientation and on-the-job training of all new technicians.
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness.
• Administrative technician duties assigned by the Pharmacist in charge.

Education Requirements

• High school graduation including a general mathematics course, or equivalent.
• Current Iowa Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Registration.
• A combination of related experience and related post-high school education equal to a minimum of one year.
• Current Pharmacy Technician Certification or eligibility. All pharmacy technicians must be certified within one year of employment.

If certification is not achieved by the end of one year of employment, individuals must be terminated per Iowa Board of Pharmacy.

Experience Requirements

• One year experience as a Pharmacy Technician, or
• One year of experience in a position directly related to the natural sciences, or one-year post-high school education in the natural sciences or related area.

Desired Qualifications

• Home Infusion pharmacy experience and clinical pharmacy experience are desirable.
• Job-related experience with sterile compounding is highly desirable.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift 30lb.s (2) times in a row from the floor to counter height.
• Push / pull 80lbs on a (4) wheeled cart.
