For appointment to the STATE PROGRAM EXAMINER TRAINEE 1 you must have :
A bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting, business administration, business management, computer science, computer information systems, or related IT field;
criminal justice, economics, engineering; finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics.
For appointment to the STATE PROGRAM EXAMINER TRAINEE 2 you must have :
A graduate degree or higher in accounting, business administration, business management, computer science, computer information systems, or related IT field;
criminal justice, economics, engineering; finance, mathematics, public administration, public or community health, public policy, political science, or statistics.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications :
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b / c program (see below), or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.
Depending on qualifications, you may be required to serve a 1 or 2-year traineeship that leads to the full level grade 18 position.

- Performs audits in accordance with applicable auditing standards.
- Analyzes areas for audit, assists in establishing scope and areas of risk, suggests approaches for addressing risk.
- Evaluates systems and procedures relating to audit areas for compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and contract terms.
- Examines internal controls to evaluate the extent that proper and effective controls are in place for areas under audit.
- Evaluates agency programs and operating procedures for efficiency and effectiveness in meeting agency and legislative goals and priorities.
- Uses computer-assisted auditing tools and techniques across various platforms to meet audit objectives.
- Preparing audit working papers, which includes documenting meeting minutes, analysis, and methodologies.
- Documenting audit results to share with the auditee (., writing preliminary audit findings, letters, and audit reports).
- Discussing findings with auditee representatives and participating in entrance and exit conferences.
- May be assigned as a lead auditor and oversee the work of trainees and student assistants on small, low risk or routine assignments;
and may perform tasks assessing program risks to plan potential audits, and work on special or audit research projects.
