Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage undergraduate enrollment and impaction planning, retention efforts, and general supervision of student academic welfare
  • Oversee the development and delivery of the BSBA degree offered through SJSU Online. Supervise the LCoB program director and collaborate with the office of Academic Innovation and Online Initiatives and other relevant campus units.
  • Contribute to the continuing success of the College by keeping undergraduate and graduate programs well positioned as a part of the overall College portfolio.

This includes developing and maintaining a distinct brand for the programs, marketing them to appropriate audiences, and recommending to the Dean the appropriate student fees for the non-state-supported programs offered by the College.

  • Participate in curriculum revision efforts for existing LGSB and joint-degree programs in conjunction with the program-specific Curriculum Committees and SJSU administrative units.
  • Work with the dean and DRO to maintain oversight responsibility over revenues and costs associated with program development and delivery, to sustain the economic viability of programs, especially non state-supported programs.
  • Oversee all functions and services related to recruiting, admitting, matriculating, advising, scheduling, retaining, and graduating undergraduate and graduate students in both state-supported and non-state-supported graduate programs.
  • Implement programs and directives that benefit undergraduate and graduate students and their faculty. These range from overseeing the compliance of programs with SJSU and CSU requirements, to convening student leaders, to assisting in resolving faculty-student conflicts.
  • Oversee the graduate program directors and the director of executive education programs and is responsible for their training and development.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of appropriate student information systems for purposes of administering all phases of enrollment management from inquiries to graduation.

From the databases, timely reports are to be provided to the dean, department chairs / school directors, and other who need to know statistics and trends regarding graduate students.

Serve as the administrator responsible for making decisions on student issues that fall outside the normal admission or retention range.

Exercise consistent judgment related to signature authority on all petitions and forms requiring action about or on behalf of applicants and students.

  • Oversee the selection of student scholarship recipients, maintain stewardship of the scholarship process, and keep donors informed regarding scholarship beneficiaries
  • Implement and champion programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion for students
  • Manage and resolve student concerns / complaints when faculty or department chairs / school directors require assistance and support
  • Coordinate with Center for Faculty Development and e-campus on instructional design services.
  • Identify and address equity gaps in graduation and retention of students using holistic student success initiatives. This would include learning and pedagogical interventions involving chairs and faculty at the college level, as well as other interventions involving other campus stakeholders (e.

g. peer connections, advising).

  • Supervise the College Event Planning Staff and the Student Success Programs Analyst
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain guidelines, policies and procedures to support curricular & student service functions of the College

  • The incumbent must demonstrate an ability to work effectively with diverse populations. He / She / They must value and respect diversity and individual uniqueness and recognize the strength these factors bring to the SJSU community and learning environment.

The Associate Dean should also understand and implement lines of reporting, responsibility, and accountability, making accurate, easily accessible information available to all members of the campus community.

The incumbent must operate the College and its Departments / Schools as a team, establishing rapport with people from diverse academic backgrounds.

He / She / They will also be an integral part of interviewing, hiring, and training staff in the Deans’ Office. This duty includes planning, assigning, and directing work as well as the appraisal the performance of employees within that office.

The incumbent must prioritize and plan work activities to meet department and college priorities and timelines. Inherent in this activity is the identification of needed resources, and the establishment of procedures to utilize existing and new resources efficiently.

The ability to adapt to changing priorities, situations, and demands is intrinsic to the planning process.

The incumbent must demonstrate organizational awareness and exhibit a firm grasp of the College and University’s business and administrative policies and procedures.

The Associate Dean must also be able to provide accurate information on these policies and procedures to faculty, students and staff.

  • The incumbent’s communication, both oral and written, must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Additionally, the Associate Dean must display a commitment to excellence by looking for ways to improve and promote quality within the College, while soliciting feedback to improve his or her own performance.
  • The incumbent must engage in creative problem solving, thinking globally rather than taking an insular perspective. The Associate Dean must be able to re-engineer processes that are not achieving College or Departmental / School goals.

She / He / They must be open and receptive to change and new ideas regarding the policies and procedures of the College and University.

  • The incumbent should serve as the contact person when potentially hazardous or unsafe conditions are observed. They / He / She should implement procedures to identify and alleviate any risky conditions within the College.
  • Evidence of the ability and willingness to innovate or act entrepreneurially within academic institutions.
  • Ability to lead groups through the process of continuous improvement in designing new curricula and / or enhancing existing degree programs.
  • Leadership and communication skills that help others to comprehend and commit to the visions and goals of the College and the University.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in working with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with a comprehensive metropolitan university environment.
  • Familiarity with a unionized employment environment (both faculty and staff).
  • Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner.

Required Qualifications

  • A relevant doctoral degree or appropriate terminal degree as specified by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) standards is required
  • We also require three years of relevant administrative experience in a business or academic setting.
  • Applicants must be academically qualified in regard to the AACSB standard.
  • Applicants must have a record of scholarly work and teaching at a graduate level sufficient to have earned the rank of tenured, full professor in an AACSB-accredited business school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty, students and staff, operating effectively in an atmosphere of open, transparent, and collegial communication and shared self-governance.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with university, community and industry constituents, including other colleges and potential employers of college students.
  • Demonstrated experience leading groups through the process of continuous improvement in designing new and / or enhancing existing programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with AACSB accreditation standards for graduate programs including program planning, curriculum development, faculty qualifications, student quality, and assessment programs.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to fund-raising and resource development efforts.
  • Demonstrated experience in services related to marketing, recruitment, and student enrollment.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities for program development; and planning and executing programs to pursue those opportunities.

Compensation

Classification : Administrator III

Anticipated Hiring Range : $17,000 / month - $17,850 / month

CSU Salary Range : $6,563 / month - $21,066 / month

The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
