Position Description
Title : Welding Engineer
Summary : The Welding Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, quality, and safety of welding processes with the organization.
This position involves the planning, development, and supervision of welding projects, as well as maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibil ities Includes the following :
- Develop and implement welding procedures and specifications.
- Develop welder requirements and designs as required for quoting new business.
- Apply technical knowledge to recommend processes and equipment applicable to metal manufacturing requirements.
- Monitor and optimize welding processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Ensure that all welding activities comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with projectmanagers and engineering teams to plan welding projects.
- Create project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Identify potential welding-related risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the inspection and testing of welds to ensure quality and compliance.
- Address any issues related to welding defects and provide solutions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of welding activities.
- Ensure safe working environment and compliancewith safety regulations.
- Provide guidance on material compatibility and suitability for specific projects.
- Implement innovative welding techniques to improve productivity and quality.
- Design and work with 3rd party suppliers to design and build fixtures as needed for welding projects.
- Advise / or developpreventive maintenance programs for all welding cells.
- Develop and maintain inventories of plant welding equipment.
Qualification Requirements : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.
Education and / or Experience : Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Professional certification in Welding Engineering (e.
g., Certified Welding Engineer, AWS Certified Welding Inspector.)Preferredexperience with High Frequency Continuous welding, Laser Welding, wire feed welding.
At least three (3) years in the weld engineering function that displays progressive work-related skill, knowledge, in a high-volume manufacturing environment is required.
Physical Requirements : While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit.
The employee is regularly required to use hands to feel or handle tools, objects, and controls.The employee is rarely required to lift or move up to 25 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

- Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and welding codes and standards.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and project management abilities.
- Knowledge of safety regulationsand procedures.
- Able to develop programs for robotic welders and verify the program meets the requirements.
- Maintenance of the weldingequipment to identify best practice for PMs.
- Understands the proper way to hold or present parts to the welders.
- Ability / willingness to traveloccasionallyto other locations.(not often)
