Purpose of the Position :
The Computer Scientist IV needs a strong deep learning background to build Foundation models, including multimodal systems, for the Inter-Agency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) in the Earth Systems Science Center.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Leverage NASA's diverse science data sets along with large-scale computing resources to fast-track advancements in LLMs, computer vision, and multimodal systems, ensuring our Foundation model team stays at the forefront of innovation in science
- Work with large teams including external collaborators; communicate in written and oral format with UAH and NASA IMPACT team members
- Present research findings
- Write peer-reviewed publications and other reports, as needed
Minimum Requirements :
- Master's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
- Minimum of 5.5 years of full-time verifiable work experience, (to include 3 years in both applied research experience and building machine learning models for business application experience)
Experience programming in Python or related language
Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
Experience with LLMs or vision-based transformers and multimodal architectures
Thorough understanding of AI / ML technology stack
Experience in CNN, Transformer, and Graph Neural Network.
Experience with generative deep learning models applicable to the creation of synthetic data like CNNs, GANs, VAEs, etc.
Experience with large-scale machine learning systems such as profiling and debugging and understanding of system performance and scalability
Experience with cross-domain / multi-task model training including datasets from diverse sources, balancing many axes of measurement in evaluation, and deploying to multiple products.
Experience in publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Desired Qualifications :
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience is preferred
- A proven record of grant writing experience is preferred
