The Category Manager position requires an experienced sourcing professional with a background in non-clinical materials and services contracting with superior analytic and problem-solving skills supporting a fast-paced, transformation-oriented work environment.
The position requires experience in contract spend areas such as but not limited to, Facilities / MRO, Construction, IT, Finance, Human Resources, and non-clinical capital purchasing.
This position is responsible for the end-to-end process of source-to-contract for a category within a health care setting utilizing sourcing best practices.
The Category Manager will develop sourcing strategies in collaboration with stakeholders that offer optimal balance of cost, quality, and outcomes.
The Category Manager will be responsible for identifying initiatives, developing market / spend analysis, benchmarking comparisons, and competitive procurement documents (RFP / RFI).
This position will lead supplier negotiations, contract development / management, vendor management, and the identification / realization of savings opportunities.
The ideal candidate is skilled at creating presentations and presenting / discussing complex Supply Chain initiatives to all levels of leadership.

The Category Manager will be responsible for identifying initiatives, developing market / spend analysis, benchmarking comparisons, and competitive procurement documents (RFP / RFI).
This position will lead supplier negotiations, contract development / management, vendor management, and the identification / realization of savings opportunities.
The ideal candidate is skilled at creating presentations and presenting / discussing complex Supply Chain initiatives to all levels of leadership.
The individual in this position must :
1) possess knowledge associated with the professional field of strategic sourcing, project management, systems, and procedures.
2) have experience in non-clinical materials and services contracting including Facilities / MRO, Capital Equipment, Construction, Professional Services, and Associated Software.
3) have experience in the creation of RFP / RFI documents, driving the solicitation process, with appropriate documentation of processes and decisions.
4) have experience in contracting, vendor management, analysis creation, cross department consensus building.
5) have demonstrated ability to apply associated theories, methods, and principles, to practice.
6) perform associated duties that are predominantly intellectual and varied in nature, requiring creative, analytical, evaluative, interpretive, and / or critical thinking; and
7) Exercise discretion and independent judgment, requiring only general supervision.
8) Possess proficiency with Excel, Word and standard computer programs required.
9) Possess excellent planning and critical thinking skills.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Category Manager will be responsible for the contracting and vendor management from the item to the relationship level.
The Category Manager is an end user focused position ensuring best value for the goods and services procured by the system.
This will be achieved through strong negotiation, communication, contracting, and management of vendor deliverables.
Analyzes business needs and ensures that functional and technical requirements are documented. Develops communication strategy and establishes communication plan.
Performs necessary investigations, analyses, and evaluations to determine feasibility. Prepares routine department status reports.
Provide regular department status information to team members, including attending required meetings and following-up on action items.
Ensures adherence to protocols, procedures, and project plans. Establishes departmental goals and measurements of success.
Ensures each project deliverable has clear completion criteria and acceptance plan. Maintains all relevant documentation and communications.
- Provides direction and support to the department ensuring the team is informed of all changes, decisions, etc. that may affect the success of the department.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships within the system to obtain information and content from providers and colleagues to foster successful project completion.
- Supports short and long term operational / strategic business activities - by developing, enhancing, and maintaining project information and models.
Develops and implements effective / strategic business solutions through research and analysis of data and business processes.
- Develops and manages best-practices and tools for performance improvement plan execution and management. Identifies and manages performance improvement dependencies and critical path issues.
- Serves as an operational resource for internal team members for expedited problem identification and resolution, provision of project-specific updates, and team interactions and deadlines.
- Concurrently coordinates and manages multiple projects across the Health System.
- Adheres and assists with business operations and project specific quality documents (for example : SOPs, work plans / practices, training guides).
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE :
BS Science or Business Administration Degree required. Completion of Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Master of Health Administration preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years’ contract / spend management experience with a focus on indirect spend including Facilities / MRO, Capital Equipment, Construction, Professional Services, and Associated Software.
