We are one of Boston’s oldest and most established community development organizations, with an annual operating budget of approximately $11 million and a staff of 36.

Your Role :

As the Assistant Director of Small Business, you will support the Director in administering the agency’s loan fund. You will also play a key role in supporting the small business compliance function, the innovation of DBEDC technical assistance and loan products, outreach and marketing, new product development, and the growth of DBEDC’s loan fund.

To succeed, you should have :

• At least two years in small business technical assistance or lending, with a demonstrated commitment to racial equity.
• Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data; strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines under pressure, and navigate change and ambiguity.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, exhibiting multicultural understanding.
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office and / or Google Suite) and the ability to learn new technologies.

It would also be phenomenal if you have, but it’s not required :

• Knowledge of the small business ecosystem, SBA and / or CDFI experience, and lending compliance experience.
• Verbal and written fluency in Spanish, Cape Verdean Kriolu, Haitian Creole, or Vietnamese.
• Experience with the Lift Fund online lending platform, Northridge Loan Servicing platform, and tracking / reporting outcomes.

What you can expect to do as the Assistant Director of Small Business :

• Compliance & Regulation : Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures; handle reporting to the SBA, CDFI Fund, Mass Growth Capital, and other entities.
• Loan Fund Efficiency : Assess and improve loan fund processes for maximum efficiency and effectiveness; make recommendations to the Director of Small Business.
• Loan Management : Conduct credit analysis, underwriting, loan closings, and loan servicing; support pre- and post-loan technical assistance.
• Business Development : Support program marketing, build the loan pipeline, close loans, and grow the portfolio.
• Team Support & Supervision : Mentor and train Lending and Outreach Officers; supervise case evaluation and project-based work.
