This is a paid volunteer position at King's Schools in Shoreline, WA.

Compensation is between $3,000 - $4,500 stipend

POSITION SUMMARY The position of the King’s Assistant Cross Country Coach is to provide an God-Centric environment for student-athletes to excel as individuals and as members of a team.

Carry out King’s schools mission and vision while bringing innovative ideas and techniques to the field. DUTIES

1. Yearly Preparation :

A) Student and Coach Development :

  • Develop Core Covenant statements and objectives for the coming sport season.
  • Conduct oneself in a Christ like, ethical and moral manner; conduct oneself in a professional manner becoming of a head coach.
  • Oversee the development of the JV and Varsity program in your sport.
  • Communicate with coaches from different levels and provide / receive input on what is needed to be successful.
  • Keep abreast of new developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attending clinics, workshops, and reading material about your individual sport.
  • Continuous promotion of King’s Schools athletic programs and be supportive of all other coaches and programs.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities relative to the sport as assigned by the principal and / or athletic director.

B) Rules and Regulations :

  • Maintain understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations regarding the sport as presented in the WIAA Handbook, Emerald Sound Conference, and individual sport rules book.
  • Stay current with rule changes as adopted by the National Federation and the WIAA; must complete the yearly official’s rules clinic and encourage assistant coaches to do likewise.

C) Budget and Fundraising Management :

  • Manage budget so that it meets the needs of your program; follow established purchase procedures while working with the Athletic Director.
  • Run fundraising ideas through the athletic director and school business office.

2. In Season Management :

A) Pre-Season Prep :

  • Hold pre-season staff meeting to outline covenants, goals and program for the coming season and to make staff assignments.
  • Develop and give each assistant coach duties and responsibilities.
  • Hold one or two pre-season meeting for all students interested in trying out.
  • Attend league pre-season coaches meeting concerning your sport.

B) Coaching Leadership and Player Growth :

  • Assume full responsibility for all phases of the program.
  • Continually teach and emphasize safety procedures and precautions; include them in daily turnouts and provide these safety measures on daily turnout schedules.
  • Oversee and prepare athletes both mentally, physically and spiritually to participate in athletic contests with confidence and self-assurance.
  • Set each player up to achieve success by participating in as many contests as possible, providing constructive feedback that can help them become a better athlete.
  • Assume responsibility for the constant care of the equipment and facilities that are being used instruct athletes to take the same approach and how to care for their equipment.
  • Report the results of all contestants to the area media and promote the sport and athletes.
  • Observe and follow up on injured athletes, making sure they do not return to participation without a doctor’s release on file.

C) Player Growth and Development :

  • Demand ethical and exemplary conduct of participants; emphasize good sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Apply discipline in a firm yet redemptive and loving God centric consistent manner.
  • Provide constructive feedback regarding behavior holding students accountable through soft and repentant hearts, helping them see and understand King’s mission and vision and how it carries onto the field.

3. Post Season :

A) End of the Year Management :

  • Attend any league meetings called Concerning Your Sport ; see that any requested information (all-league nominations, is returned in a timely fashion.
  • Recommend facility maintenance and improvements.
  • Update records (team and individual), letter awards and all-league.
  • Organize the awards night; work with athletic director to order special awards; be sure to request letter award certificates at least one week prior to the actual award ceremony.

B) Equipment Check-In :

  • Systematically check in the equipment immediately following the last contest.
  • Check for any lost, stolen, or defective equipment and create a payment plan with the athlete and administration for replacements and repairs.

Payment process would include :

  • Bill the athletes for any lost equipment that was issued to them.
  • Give the athletic director a copy of all fines and lost equipment.
  • See that all equipment is cleaned prior to being stored.
  • Store all equipment in your assigned area and secure the area.
  • Inventory all equipment within thirty (30) days from the end of the season.
  • Recommend equipment needs for the following year and arrange for equipment repairs.

Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS CHRIST CENTERED

  • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior
  • Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (.

daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc).

  • Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
  • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
  • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
  • Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE

Previous coaching experience recommended

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Coaching certification through FinalForms

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  • Must pass WA State Background Check
  • Must agree with King’s Mission and Vision
  • Hold a valid CPR / 1st Aid card and keep abreast of the latest information regarding the safety of athletes in competition.
  • Meet or exceed the WIAA coaching standards as published in the WIAA Handbook or in the King’s Schools Coaches Handbook.
  • Have understanding and knowledge of King’s School’s philosophy and goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.

Cross Country Coaching experience preferred
