Position Summary :
We are looking for a passionate, teachable, and collaborative Community Organizer to join our talented and diverse team.
The Community Organizer is responsible for working with a variety of congregations, neighborhoods, and / or community-based groups to find and develop leaders;
identify issues important to the local community members; work with leaders to design campaign strategies, and win policy changes that improve communities and the quality of life for residents.
This position will specifically work with clergy and lay leaders in institutions and communities in Washoe County.
This individual is expected to be a full participant in achieving the FIANV mission, with specific responsibility to :
- Develop community leadership through the principles and practices of the model of faith-based community organizing
- Build relationships by conducting 15-20 weekly one-to-one conversations with congregants and community members in faith communities.
- Develop Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) in at least 3 institutions in the first year
- Work with LOCs to set listening goals, research meetings, define issues, and conduct public actions to resolve community concerns
- Identify & develop potential issue cuts and strategies based on results of listening sessions
- Work with faith, spiritual and institutional leaders from diverse traditions to build relationships and to act in the public arena on issues affecting their members
- Participate in FIANV and Faith in Action initiatives and campaigns to move policy at regional, state, and national levels
- Participate in fundraising and administrative activities as required
- Participate in weekly staff professional development sessions and other training activities
Qualifications :

- A demonstrated ability to work in multi-faith, multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural contexts
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills, and interest in people; a good listener, and great communication skills
- Capacity to think, speak and write strategically and analytically about social, economic, cultural, and political issues affecting our communities
- Experience / comfort working with clergy, people of faith, faith and spiritual communities around social change issues
- Demonstrated a commitment to equity, justice, and healthy communities
- Desire to learn and openness to challenge
- A self-directed, highly motivated orientation and an ability to provide positive, disciplined leadership in an unstructured environment
- Experience with and comfort using computers, email systems, and basic office equipment
Preferred Qualifications & Experience :
- B.A. or B.S degree strongly preferred, or equivalent work experience
- Experience with and comfort using web-based video conferencing systems such as Google Hangouts & Zoom
- Familiarity with Google Suite and Mac OS.
- Spanish / bilingual proficiency is a plus
Compensation and Benefits :
- A full-time position (40-50 hours per week), non-exempt position
- Includes regular evening and occasional weekend work as needed
- Salary range is $45-55k commensurate with experience and qualifications
