Job Description
The University of Missouri's Office of Advancement is seeking a Senior Director of Advancement for the St. Louis region, depending on experience.
This position will be part of a dedicated 5-member Regional Programs Team focused on geographic fundraising. The primary focus will be on Greater St.
Louis, the university’s largest alumni market, with over 75,000 constituents. This role may also provide support for other regions as assigned.
Extensive travel, up to 50%, including overnight trips is required. The successful candidate will be a regional expert, crucial in building the university's brand recognition within the St.
Louis region through strategic engagement and outreach activities that drive short- and long-term philanthropy. They will achieve fundraising metrics while collaborating with University Advancement staff to remain strategically aligned and donor centered.
This role offers opportunities for excellence in the following areas :
Donor-Focused and Results-Oriented
- Develop and implement an annual operating plan with yearly and monthly goals under the direction of the Executive Director of Regional Programs.
- Identify prospective donors (individuals, corporations, foundations) and initiate appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities, including personal visits and occasional weekend travel.
- Cultivate and solicit five- to seven-figure gifts.
- Assist with and participate in donor / prospect activities, including special events and campus visits.
- Oversee specific fundraising projects based on opportunities with key donors and geographic considerations.
- Manage an individual travel budget and a budget for donor activities within the St. Louis region.
- Utilize the prospect management system to record prospect / donor activity and other relevant data in a timely manner.
Effective Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate with academic leaders, staff, and central University Advancement colleagues in Donor Relations, Alumni Relations, Planned Giving, and Corporate and Foundation Relations.
- Draft solicitation appeals and accompanying materials.
- Participate in Mizzou Advancement staff meetings and represent University Advancement at school / unit or Advancement leadership meetings and functions when necessary.
- Assist in training new staff through joint travel and mentorship.
Location
Preferably Greater STL Metro, but flexible within the Midwest, with regular travel to St. Louis and the University of Missouri campus in Columbia for alumni, donor, and staff meetings (minimum of 3-4 times annually).
Shift
Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, with irregular working hours and extensive travel within the region (40%-50%).
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 + Progressive fundraising and alumni / volunteer relations management experience, preferably in a higher education development setting.
- Proven history of soliciting and closing major gifts in the five- and six-figure range, with experience in campaign planning / execution and major gift solicitations.
- Ability to work effectively with high-net-worth business leaders.
- Experience working with academic leadership in a capital or comprehensive campaign is highly desired.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work autonomously and entrepreneurially outside a central office.
- Strong work ethic, personal integrity, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to the mission and values of the University of Missouri.

Salary Range : $90,000 -$115,000
