The Opportunity
The position of Senior Operations Scientist is within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics business located in Westbrook, Maine .
This role will include providing advanced technical support toward the accomplishment of manufacturing and product development objectives.
The primary responsibility of the individual is to troubleshoot product issues, design and execute experiments and complete design change projects.
What You’ll Work On
Characterizes the performance of materials, processes and products.
Coordinates the work of other manufacturing and / or research engineers / scientists and technicians.
Maintains good manufacturing / laboratory practices (GMP or GLP), orderly and accurate paperwork, quality systems, and maintaining the integrity of manufactured product.
Makes advanced technically based decisions that are important to present and future products and is responsible for disseminating the technical findings to other functional areas of the company.
Understands Design of Experiments (DOE) principles and follows the scientific method.
Responsible for leading and managing product / process testing projects.
Supports Customer Complaint investigation.
Supports Tracking and Trending Analysis Program.
May conduct original research that furthers the objectives of the company.
May conduct root cause analysis on product failures, including proposals for preventive actions.
Schedules test programs and management of workload to help assure timely and satisfactory completion of projects.
Maintains good verbal and written communication skills and provides timely and accurate reporting both internally and externally.
Monitors scientific / medical literature relevant to innovative research and testing objectives.
Consults with and provides technical evaluations for other departments (Manufacturing, Development, etc.)
Supports R&D / Marketing with product development and consultation.
May work with test requestors to develop test programs, formulate test protocols, and choose appropriate test equipment.
This will include supervision of fabrication or selection of new equipment as needed.
Able to work independently to further goals and objectives of the department.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree (MA or MS) in biology, immunology, or chemistry equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 3+ years laboratory experience including chromatography.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in biology, immunology, or chemistry.
Familiarity with national and international testing standards related to mechanical and chemical testing.
