Jayhawk Global is looking for a Communications Coordinator who will play a crucial role in developing and executing effective communication strategies across various channels.
This individual will be responsible for crafting compelling content, devising content strategies, and ensuring the successful delivery of messages to our target audiences, specifically for Jayhawk Continuing Education, Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute and Jayhawk Global overall.
The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and editing skills, strategic thinking capabilities, and a keen eye for detail.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of branding and marketing and the ability to collaborate with multiple teams across Jayhawk Global, taking written or spoken ideas and converting them into captivating copy.
Additionally, they will actively engage with various units within the organization to gain a comprehensive understanding of their areas, enabling them to write engaging and accurate copy that resonates with the target audience.
They must be willing to learn and adjust their work based on constructive criticism and be able to effectively communicate with clients and coworkers, both in-person and digitally.
This position reports to the Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) for Strategic Planning and Communications.

Job Description
50% Writing, Editing and Asset Development
- Create engaging and persuasive content for a variety of channels, including website copy, print collateral, promotional video scripts, presentations, social media campaigns, and press releases.
- Edit and proofread written materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand voice and style guidelines.
- Investigate and develop copy for marketing materials and news and feature stories by conducting interviews and performing additional research as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather information and insights for content creation, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and messaging.
- Design digital assets for online platforms, including social media graphics, digital ads, email campaigns, and website pages.
- Develop and edit graphics, photos, animations and videos for promotional use and in presentations.
- Optimize graphics and images for web and social media platforms to ensure fast loading times and optimal performance.
- Assist with taking and editing photographs and video or arranging for contract with external vendors or internal services such as KU Marketing or KU Media Services as required for events and activities.
30% Communications Content Distribution
- Help manage content on the Jayhawk Global websites, serving as a contact for updates across the site, maintaining news feeds and events calendars, and ensuring overall accuracy, consistency and brand-alignment.
- Assist with planning and generating content for Jayhawk Global’s social media platforms, including researching, creating, editing, posting and cross-promoting content.
- Create and oversee drip campaigns within the CRM to ensure robust inquiry generation and effectiveness in subsequent communications.
- Maintain a communications calendar for social media content, news releases, and website updates.
- Share events and news updates with stakeholders, encouraging their dissemination through their respective communication channels to ensure that Jayhawk Global stories reach a wider and more varied audience.
15% Communication Research and Analysis
- Monitor, analyze, and report on the reach and engagement of news, social media, website, and drip campaigns. Provide recommendations for adjusting the communication plan and improving search engine optimization as necessary.
- Evaluate the efficiency of digital communication strategies and explore emerging trends and opportunities to elevate brand visibility and enhance audience engagement.
- Oversee KU webpages to guarantee smooth transitions as audiences navigate between departmental websites. Take action to implement or request changes as necessary.
- Routinely check Jayhawk Global webpages for broken links and accessibility requirements.
5% Other Duties :
- Support cross-functional teams with communications needs as requested, including but not limited to editing digital and multi-media files, formatting documents, identifying and working with vendors, and developing forms and templates.
- Collaborate with external vendors and agencies as needed to execute projects and initiatives.
- Provide writing support for special projects and initiatives as assigned by supervisor.
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and creative workshops to contribute ideas and insights for ongoing projects and campaigns.
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English or relevant field, AND one year of related experience.
- Experience applying stellar writing and editing skills, as demonstrated in work samples.
- Professional experience using excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by interview and application materials.
- Strong computer skills, with experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, web content management systems, and social media platforms.
- Experience utilizing a customer relationship management system.
- Experience developing and maintaining websites as demonstrated by previous work history.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing multiple detail-oriented projects on tight deadlines.
- Experience tailoring messages via different communication channels spanning from news releases to social media, video, etc.
- Experience developing communications plans using Hubspot or Slate.
- Experience developing and maintaining Drupal sites
- Experience with html, CSS, and JavaScript
