Summary :

The Assistant Director is a frontline fundraiser reporting to the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations. S / he is responsible for supporting the pursuit of funding from private foundations and corporate giving programs to support Rush programs and projects.

With mentorship, the Assistant Director manages a portfolio of prospects with the capacity to make 5- and low-6-figure grants.

In addition, approximately 20-30% of this position’s time will be dedicated to tracking foundation RFPs and similar opportunities to build the Corporate and Foundation Relations team’s prospect pipeline.

This is an integral role on the Office of Philanthropy’s six-member Corporate and Foundation Relations team. The position offers an excellent introduction to institutional fundraising in an academic health system setting during the execution of a comprehensive campaign.

S / he exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities :

1.Carry a fundraising goal in the range of $250,000 to $500,000 annually.

2.Monitor sources of and disseminate foundation RFPs to appropriate internal audiences.

3.Maintain inventory of faculty project intake forms and perform keyword funding searches.

4.Analyze prospect giving patterns and interests in order to develop, test and execute cultivation and solicitation. strategies.

5.Edit or assist with writing of accurate and compelling proposals, both in response to RFPs and to renew the support of grantmakers already funding Rush.

6.Build and maintain positive relationships with foundation program officers and corporate social responsibility staff.

7.Coordinate site visits, including briefing of and debriefing with Rush attendees.

8.Prepare reports and coordinate other stewardship touchpoints to foster long-term donor engagement.

9.Develop a lay understanding of current themes and Rush priorities in clinical care, research, academics, and community health.

10.Meet with faculty and staff members to keep abreast of relevant research or programs, and to identify potential funding sources.

11.Effectively communicate to, with, and on behalf of the Corporate and Foundation Relations team and the Office of Philanthropy department.

12.Contribute to team and departmental planning, including goal-setting and reporting.

13.Collaborate with peers from other Philanthropy teams to share resources and information.

14.Coordinate special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Job Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and listening skills; comfortable accepting edits and other forms of feedback
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate productively with peers, managers, and leaders in a variety of disciplines
  • Track record of independently managing one’s time to initiate and complete overlapping projects
  • Willingness to embrace the Rush I-CARE values
  • Evidence of strong interest in health care, biomedical research, and / or higher education; demonstrated interest in growing professionally in fundraising.
