In support of our client, a regional general contractor located near Nashville, we are searching for a Sr. Project Manager - Heavy Highway to support various municipal, commercial and institutional client projects.
This person will collaborate directly with our client’s construction project management team, engineers and vendors to provide leadership and administration.
This is a direct hire opportunity with our client’s Transportation operations team located in Brentwood, TN. The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible, with the Project Superintendent, for the overall management and administration of heavy highway / civil construction projects.
This includes involvement in preconstruction services, estimating, subcontractor management, submittal processing, meeting the schedule budget, and achieving high qualify on all projects.
Must be willing to travel weekly between Nashville and Knoxville based on project demands. Candidates that live in or around either of these locations encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Has a solid understanding of construction safety practices. Has full ability to stop work if unsafe conditions exist and reports concerns to the Project Superintendent and Safety department.
- Understands all trades, and has strong knowledge of heavy highway construction.
- Conducts constructability reviews as design progresses and develops conceptual and detailed quantity survey estimates.
- Leads subcontractor job walks on large projects.
- Accurately and efficiently evaluates detailed schedules, making adjustments as needed.
- Forecasts costs throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Proficient in different delivery methods and contract types and able to foster and maintain construction management, design-build, and design-assist relationships.
- Provides guidance and oversight to project team members responsible for project documentation and regularly verifies for accuracy and deficiencies.
- Supervises the submittal process, identifying and resolving any high impact issues that occur.
- Makes subcontractor selection and manages entire subcontract process. Can negotiate and resolve nearly all subcontractor issues and knows when to include higher level team members from both sides.
- Trains, mentors, coaches, and evaluates Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers.
- Develops financial management skills by reviewing financial statements with Senior Team Leadership.
- Understands and monitors construction insurance and bonding process.
- Develops project-specific punch list approach and integrates owner, CM, and designers into the program. Arranges and attends the punch list walkthrough.
- Manages project closeout from beginning to end.
- Monitors costs on Self-Performed Work, developing mitigating measures as needed.
- Understands and manages all costs associated with change requests.
- Ensures a harassment-free workplace for all employees.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :
- Minimum required - Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum required - 5 years Project Management experience.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS :
- Thorough understanding of TDOT standards, policies, and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Project.
- Ability to use and implement new tools and technologies, such as Viewpoint, Heavy Job, PlanGrid, AGTEK, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, and other Building Information Models (BIM) software.
- Knowledge of local market with ability to develop and maintain business relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including delivering clear and persuasive presentations.
- Basic understanding of construction finance, scheduling, engineering, estimating, and purchasing processes and techniques.
