Highline Public Schools is seeking a Director of Community Safety to join our Central Office Leadership Team. The Director of Community Safety works under the direction of the Associate Superintendent in support of bridging law enforcement frameworks with educational frameworks surrounding Positive Behavior and Interventions and Supports .
As the Director, they recognize that strong connections between school staff and students correlate with improved mental health and improved achievement for students, leading to a more positive school climate.
To achieve these results, they ensure safety and security work alongside other departments to create a culture of belonging.
Additionally, they work to provide vision and inspiration to motivate safety and security personnel, and develop multi-tiered systems of support where the department is aligned and integrated into school-led and school-designed systems.
The ideal candidate has knowledge and expertise with childhood social emotional learning, Positive Interventions and Supports (PBIS), de-escalation strategies, and restorative justice practices.
Additionally, a successful candidate has strong communication skills and demonstrates the ability to build successful working relationships with diverse stakeholders, supporting a linguistically and ethnically diverse community.
They directly supervise and evaluate staff, and lead recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce in alignment with the beliefs and policies of the district.
Please note the following hiring timeline : This position will close at 11 : 30 pm PST on June 5th. HR minimum qualification screening and district phone screenings will take place on a rolling basis through June 7th, followed by site-based screening beginning on June 10th.
Interviews will be conducted in person and are tentatively scheduled on Friday, June 14th with the possibility of finalist interviews.

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- K-12 public school district experience
Salary
$161, 796 - $178, 592
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, planning, and direction for the department, aligned with District’s priorities, objectives, and strategic plan.
- Create systems, structures, and routines where, as part of a multi-tiered system of support, safety and security are aligned and integrated into school’s Social Emotional Learning and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
- Develop systems where safety and security personnel feel connected to their school, accepted, and welcomed as part of their school community.
