POSITION SUMMARY :

The candidate will operate manual machines, including lathes, mills, and grinders. Must be able to interpret prints, manufacture to desired tolerances, and inspect parts to satisfy all aspects required.

Must also be responsible for the quality of his workmanship and have a thorough understanding of required tooling and processes to perform the duties of this position.

Absolutely must have own tools. This position does NOT run production lots.

Machinist must communicate with co-workers regarding machine availability and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to work alongside other personal, inside and outside department as required to perform job function.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Performs all assigned grind room operations.

Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisor or engineer.

Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures.

Performs inspection of machined and ground parts.

Completes part and delivers to engineer to assure it meets all dimensions per print assigned.

Assists in other work areas to perform fabrication of parts including fitting parts to machine to ensure function.

Performs other related duties as needed and assigned.

The position requires frequent lifting of raw material and tooling fixtures as needed to manufacture or repair parts.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS :

Ability to setup, program, and operate Walter 5-axis CNC tool grinder with Tool Studio programming software.

Ability to setup and operate :

Royal Oaks manual form relief grinder.

Makino manual tool cutter grinder.

Okamoto OD grinder.

Various NV and manual surface grinders.

Mathematical Skills.

Mechanical Aptitude.

Proficiency with measurement instruments (micrometers, comparators, DRO, thread gages .etc.)

Ability to think analytically, creatively, and independently with excellent problem solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships, while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams .

Demonstrated successful ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to drive change and continuous improvement; track record leading and implementing sustainable process improvements, seeking out and implementing internal or external best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Familiarity with the plumbing industry and products.

High school diploma or graduation from a certified technical school.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in carbide multi-step tool grinding.

Must have 1-2 years Walter Tool studio programming.

Must possess skills in manual tool manufacturing and regrinding.

Mitsubishi EDM experience preferred but not required.
