Job Summary

This position performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician's order and departmental policy.

May function in lieu of a supervisor / coordinator when necessary, makes out assignments, handles personnel and assures proper staffing for the oncoming shift.

Works independently in all acute and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.

Must possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate for the role.

This position is eligible for a sign on bonus of $10,000 through March 1, 2023

Accountabilities

• Acts independently and proficiently to perform all advanced respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care Guidelines or Protocol (RT Consult). - 10%
• Able obtain blood gases from all sites. Analyzes and reports results appropriately, and provides analyzer QC and maintenance as needed. - 10%
• Independently initiates, monitors, and manages all types of airway and associated equipment, including all types of advanced invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Assists physicians with bronchoscopy procedures. - 10%

• Accurately and completely documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and tasks. Provides patient and family education, documents in the care plan as appropriate. - 10%
• Effectively communicates well with all members of the health care team. Provides a complete and accurate report. Makes appropriate recommendations for care. - 10%
• Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning / disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. - 10%

Must participate in at least one of the following : - 10%

• Design educational offerings, submit for CEU approval and offer education to the RT team.
• Actively participate on the Unit Based Council
• Actively participates on a Quality Committee

Acts as a clinical leader and resource to team members in all acute and critical care areas : - 10%

Must participate in at least one of the following :

• Routinely take charge in lieu of a supervisor / coordinator
• Actively participates on the ECMO or Transport Team

Acts as a primary preceptor / mentor - 10%

Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies, time / productivity - 10%

Supervisory / Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Bachelor's degree - Respiratory Therapy or other related field and a graduate of a school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or successor accrediting authority.
• Experience - At least 3 years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with 1 year at Prisma Health (working in Adult or Children's Hospital Critical Care)

Required Certifications / Registrations / Licenses

Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina.

Register Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

BLS required. NBRC credentials must be maintained.

AARC Membership Required.

Certifications required may include any or all of the following depending on the unit : ACLS,NRP,FCCS,CAM class or PALS

In Lieu Of The Above Minimum Requirements

Associate's degree and 5 years relevant experience

Other Required Skills and Experience

Must be able to effectively work in a team environment. Strong communication, computer and organizational skills required.
