Overview / Job Summary

The Used Car Buyer will analyze and manage daily inventory. In a timely manner, the inventory strategist will review market data and internal data to reveal what dealership would maximize each piece of inventory.

The Used Car Buyer will manage the transfer process to the desired location to ensure each unit has the optimal opportunity for generating the most gross profit.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Helps manager all aspects of the used car inventory and oversees implementation of warehousing, distribution, inventory management, or related strategies
  • Tracks gross and inventory turn of traded vehicles
  • Deals with local and national vendors
  • Analyzes the effectiveness of the strategies applied. Develops recommendations and frequently advises leadership on changes and adjustments that need to be applied
  • Ensures compliance with all audit key controls
  • Responds to all internal and external reporting
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission / vision of the organization

Education & Experience

  • Critical thinking
  • Full understanding of the used car sales cycle
  • Advanced knowledge of used vehicle options and their desired demand
  • Must be a team played that thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Advanced data analytics
  • Supervisory skills
  • 4+ years’ experience as a Used Car Manager, Buyer, or Inventory Specialist within the used vehicle department
  • Advanced computer skills with both Microsoft suite products and dealer management systems
  • Advanced Excel skills (V-lookups, Pivots, conditional formulas)
  • Strong understanding of General Accounting practices is required
  • Dealership experience highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
